What do we know about John Walsh? Does he have a chance to beat Jamie Raskin? (MD-8)
I would have preferred of course a Connie Morella Republican or a John Delaney Democrat, but Jamie Raskin must be one-and-done. He's nothing but a Takoma Park-Silver Spring "woke" grandstander. Remember, he ranted and raved about not certifying Trump, then impeaching Trump, then the 25th amendment crap... what has he done besides "resist Trump"? I didn't even vote for Trump, but I am a regular taxpaying citizen and I care about my taxes and my health insurance premiums and not having to pay for services for illegal immigrants. I am not interested in the virtue signaling from #Woke people in Silver Spring who march around #Resisting instead of getting a job. Are there enough Republicans in Frederick or Carroll County to vote him out? |
| That’s cute. Good luck. Jamie Raskin WILL remain your congressman, unless you move. You’d have a better chance in CD6. |
|
Sorry to say that this is one of those years where it doesn't matter who is on the ballot for the Republican Party in MD-8.
I go the other way politically but would welcome some thoughtful deliberation and debate on the issues of the day. We will not be seeing much of that anywhere in the country in 2018. This election cycle is all about Trump. Sigh. |
| OP, What's your obsession with Silver Spring? |
|
I love Jamie Raskin and I think he's needed now more than ever, but either way there's just no chance a Republican beats him this Fall.
BTW, in case you haven't noticed, all of the "Connie Morella Republicans" are leaving Congress because the Trumpkins hate them and would rather have an idiot who supports Trump than someone who is rational and reasonable. |

Your best best is to support Ficker for County Exec. Sure, it has nothing to do with Congress and Raskin's seat, but it may shake up the local politicians enough that it has an effect, later on, for the other races.
Ficker has a decent chance now that Floreen threw her hat in the ring as an independent. The Republican got 34% of the vote the last time around (2014) and this time the dems will be split between Elrich and Floreen. |
This is correct. There were very few of them left after the 2010 election, and most of those have either retired or been primaried out since. - former Connie Morella voter who happily voted for Raskin and will again |

No.
Amie Hoeber might have a chance against Trone in 6, though. Get out your base in Hagerstown and the non city part of Frederick. |
I'm trying to make sense of the idea that the OP's best bet for getting rid of Jamie Raskin in Congress is to vote for somebody for county executive who punched a pregnant woman. |
| Agree with the Robin Ficker and we also don’t like Jamie Raskin who is so phony. |

The question was a Republicans chances against Jamie Raskin
I'd say about a snowballs chance in hell, and that's being generous. Jamie is beloved and doing great things. And despite Hogan (why the Dems can't put up a good candidate for Governor is beyond me), we are a deep blue state. |
I think the point is to get rid of far-left Socialists. There is a much better chance at getting rid of fat communist Elrich who is a lot less beloved than Jamie Raskin. Get rid of Comrade Elrich, it sends a message, since it will be the first time the County Executive is not a Democrat. This could destabilize the Montgomery County Democratic establishment and maybe cause people to #WalkAway. It will show that even though Montgomery County is "blue" mainly since the Republicans are viewed as tea party or Trump extremists, it will show that they aren't socialist. After Elrich maybe they will re-evaluate other far-left Democrats and vote them out too. |
