| My kid plays for a top level team. IMO, getting moved down should never come as a surprise. A couple times a year, our coaches meet one on one with families to discuss strengths, weaknesses, and how they see the kid's role on the team. If a kid is struggling, they're already not getting much playing time. Sometimes they want to stick around and ride the bench to be with their friends. Other times, they decide they'll be happier on the B team or, more likely, on an A team at a smaller club. At the higher levels, coaches know what positions they want to upgrade and who they're looking to bring in for them. A candid conversation before tryouts gives the struggling player options, which is usually best for everyone. |
