Bowser: "We have flattened the curve in an amazing way"

I have not looked at the data in a bit. This can't possibly be true. There is absolutely no way that six weeks into this thing that we are testing fewer than 1,000 a day. If that is the case, can't DC Health just drive down the streets testing door to door? Please tell me that PP botched these stats.

What is “DC proper”? Washington, DC aka the District? Or does the OP mean those areas where “proper Washingtonians” live?

The city of Washington, DC. To differentiate between that and the Washington metropolitan area.

"DC proper" means DC. To distinguish it from DC improper, I guess, which means Maryland and Virginia.

Why do we need to test? Almost all of us will catch the virus.

So why are the testing numbers in DC so low. This is only on us. We cannot blame the federal government. We cannot blame MD or VA. We have the ability to test, the tests available and yet apparently we are choosing not to test? What is DC Health doing? What is the Mayor doing. We are the perfect test city for shooting for case studies. We should literally be on the vanguard of this and have the country asking how we managed to test 700K people.

Serious question here. Can't we just have the DCNG go door to door with a DC Health official and voluntarily test everyone? Why are we satisfied with these awful numbers? And these numbers include the 200 a week that Howard is conducting with no doctors referral?

As far as I can tell from this DC Department of Health tweet, there are testing locations all over the city and you just have to call and make an appointment?

https://twitter.com/_DCHealth/status/1258515484502159362?s=19

But this has not been publicized well at all. Plus Bowser has gone overboard with the stay-home message, which I bet has caused people to worry about leaving home to get tested.

About a week ago Bowser said at a press briefing that the city was testing about 300 people a day.

So do we think the order is going to be extended past May 15th or not?

Without a doubt. Being extended.

We have to test to know the scope of the issue.

Even though Virginia and Maryland are slated to open next week? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose?

I think that is the rural parts of the state where there aren't many cases. I know many in Nova and Moco are worried about growing number of cases. Alexandria is a hot spot and has a high number of positives.

Unless something changes it’s phase 1 for the entire state of VA

Bowser is an idiot.

There should never have been a lockdown. Period.
It should have been quarantine for old and sick, social distancing as much as possible for everyone else and common sense (washing hands, not touching face...).
When all the analysis is done, this will go down in history as the greatest policy blunder of all times.

Not only we shut down but we basically forced other smaller/poorer countries to shut down.
They are expecting MILLIONS of deaths due to this world shut down (famine, malaria, every other disease that got "forgotten" because of Covid-- A disease with a worldwide death rate of 0.003%... ) Ask workers in India, Africa how afraid they are of covid-19.

This was a rich people scare (in your house, watching TV, getting food delivered at your door and complaining you can' t get a delivery slot...). How exciting!
The ones paying for that nice break are poor in the US and in the developing world... But who cares eh? As long as you got your delivery slot at whole foods
by staying up until midnight when the new slots open...
