This is what happened to me too. Filed 2019 taxes in February back before this all blew up and rendered myself ineligible for a stimulus check. Now that you don’t have to pay it back and it’s “free” money (even though it’s obviously costing people like me in the long term) it’s definitely frustrating that doing the right thing and getting my taxes in well before the filing deadline cost me. Yeah, $1200 or $2400 isn’t significant, but it’s still money. Annoying, for sure. |
Omg get over yourself already! If you make above the stimulus income threshold, you are already doing really well. It is so selfish and shortsighted for you to complain about not getting a check when you already are earning so much. GTFOH with your phony victimhood! |
Maybe you'll get lucky and lose your job in 2020. Then you will be eligible for the stimulus when you file your 2020 tax returns.
|
I never said I’m not doing well. I do fine for myself and don’t NEED the money. It is just silly and disappointing that someone in my exact situation who hasn’t filed 2019 taxes yet would get it. That’s all I’m saying. |
It is disappointing. I get it. |
| Also, I don’t think I have to point this out, but since it’s not adjusted for COL - $75k (at which you’d get the full check) to $99k (where you’d get basically nothing) isn’t “rich” or really doing that well in this area by any means. In fact, I wouldn’t say it’s doing really well. In Kansas, yeah. And yes, I understand that a LOT of people make do on a lot less. |
OP here. I totally get where you're coming from. If you are just over the eligibility mark and have kids, there is still legitimate use for the money, though maybe not dire. |
OP here. That was initially my gripe about this bill. Especially for people with young children in daycare in high COLAs. I don't understand why those considerations weren't made. But alas, I ended up with a check so the entire process confuses me. |

So $1200 is the level at which you regret "doing the right thing"? That's pretty cheap for the price of your integrity. |
| I’m rich bros |
| My elderly father who receives SS got a random deposit in his checking account. |
| If it phases out for high incomes, it should also phase out the kid payments (and I say this as someone with two kids, who will just barely be missing out on the payment because our AGI for 2019 was slightly over the threshold — we would have gotten about $2,000 if we hadn’t already filed and used 2018 figures, according to an online calculator I found). Why would they be sending money out for dependents whose parents make enough not to qualify otherwise? |

It's so hilarious how people are bitching about not getting the stimulus while billions of dollars are being handed to corporations for free.
