I don't think so. His approval rating at 977 days is exactly what Obama's was....42.5% https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/trump-approval-ratings/ |
Trump’s has never been above 50. |
I agree. However that does not mean that "most of the country hates this guy". |
If your approval rating never gets above 50, that means that most of the country never liked you. |
| I would be concerned about Loudoun. |
Irony alert: Using the terminology of those we know you like to mock with your conservative friends. Would you like a safe space? |
Trump would have to get every vote in Loudon for it to matter. Hillary won by 5 points. |

The military usually loves Republican's but I think it's safe to say that he's among the least like Republican Presidents with the military and VA has a lot of military.
It's not going to be easy for him to win the state. |
It actually does. He’s a very polarizing figure, and people don’t feel neutral about him. I think the majority of people who don’t approve, and they are the majority, don’t just not approve, they hate him with the fire of 1,000 suns. |
| I think Virginia isn't locked up either way. I think Trump has a stronger chance if the opponent is very liberal. I think that Virginia leans left but not far left. I also think that issues like immigration play well in Virginia because Virginia has experienced a major immigration shift. In NoVA, there have always been immigrants so it isn't an anti-immigtration stance generally. But the recent influx of undocumented people has impacted schools and other social services. While most people here welcome the immigrants, most people also acknowledge that the area is experiencing growing pains. Walk through Tyson's Corner Center and you will find more recent immigrants than almost any other place in DC and from a diverse group of countries. Most of these immigrants are here legally and worked hard to be here. That makes people here a little less prone to feel guilt about saying we need to put the brakes on the influx. We are a diverse area but we need to have some control over it. So, back to the initial issue, if you get someone who is for open borders and virulently anti-gun and anti-military running against Trump, he will take it going away. |
| Who is anti military? |
| I wrote "anti-military." My word choice was bad--sorry for that. I don't think any of the candidates are anti-military. I mean more that this area has a big military and federal contractor population (stating the obvious) and that some of the candidates on the far left seem at times to blame government employees (ICE agents, for example) for issues when the blame probably should be with the actions and inactions of those in congress. Anyway, that was poor word choice on my part but I stand by my larger view that Virginia will be won or lost by Trump on the basis of who runs against him. I think he has the encumben'ts advantage, the economy is strong, and so far, no one has really risen to the top of the Democratic field. By contrast, 3 years ago, by this time in the election cycle, Trump was the clear frontrunner in the Republican field. In addition to some of the candidates simply being too far left, the fact that there is no clear leader among the Democratic field makes it seem even more likely that Trump can win again. |
Do you actually think all Trump voters (or even most) are Evangelicals? Oh, sweetie.
|
Considering Trump voters often don’t bother with polls, no one actually knows - including you. |
Who knew 47 was old. |
