Meh. I used to live in Sweden as a kid; income tax rate went as high as 90% (they let you keep 10% of what you earned, subject to other taxes).

They have scaled it back to ~64% in Sweden.

That doesn't exactly look like the capitalism our founders imagined, does it? I seem to remember something about an excessive tea-tax. . .

Besides, even North Korea & Cuba have allowed "expiraments" with capitalism, but don't fundamentally believe in private property ownership.

The US used to have a top marginal tax rate of 90% and that was during a time that many conservatives consider the golden age of American capitalism.

We can agree that the U.S. has made many mistakes in the past; that does not mean we should repeat them.

And I noticed you left a few socialist countries off your list: namely Venezuela, Cuba, not to mention the defunct Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics. Socialism always fails.

Clearly none of the Democratic Socialists want to emulate those countries (with the possible exception of some aspects of Cuba's healthcare sector). Russia is now capitalist and as much as today's Republicans worship Putin, I doubt they want to emulate Russia completely.

Then why are you so incensed?

Republicans aren’t incensed — we are thrilled! More crazy Dems to alienate normal, hardworking American voters! The Democrats are rapidly becoming the Party of Moonbats.

Republicans have an actual Nazi running for Congress.

Tell the whole story, Jeff. The person running has identified as a Nazi and cannot be stopped by the GOP from running under that state's laws.

The only thing they can do is put forth a write-in campaign to stop the shenanigans. For all we know, it's a democrat running in Nazi drag for the headlines.

Democrats don’t need to do that. Actual Republicans keep running REAL confirmed Nazis and Holocaust Deniers, not to mention accused child molesters. Voting for Nazis to own the libs.

Holocaust deniers? Anti-Semites?

How ironic that you would level that false claim at all Republicans, in a thread about:

Ocasio-Cortez, who yesterday called Isrealis "illegal occupiers," then tried to claim she has no idea what she's actually talking about.

She majored in international relations at BU. She appears to be increadibly ignorant or increadibly dishonest.

DSA is against ethno nationalism-https://www.dsausa.org/op_ed_on_ethnonationalism

"Ethno-nationalism, as exhibited in developed states, is to deny the basic human equality. .." So in practical terms what does this mean? No borders - USA, European countries. Chaos.

Single payor health system? Hah. Who gets to pay in? Healthcare funding is needlessly complex. My taxes and premiums pay for more than our family. DSA would be a super state-Big Brother running everything and taking over everything. What worked in homogenous Sweden is not a model for the USA-if it even exists at all under DSA.

She gave a very strong interview on Firing Line. Impressive command of the issues.

You must have been watching a totally different interview than most of us. Either that, or you are being sarcastic.

She seems a little thick.

In fairness, Israeli settlers are illegal occupiers. It’s the basis for the modern Jewish state: sieze by any means necessary, whether bombs or bulldozers.

Had to find this and watch it.

No, she seems really overconfident and obtuse. She'll be the perfect puppet.

DNC needs to do deep vetting before locking in to whomever wil eventually run (2020 or 2024).

Find someone with an impeccable D record, knows what they’re talking about, won’t have any skeletons that they aren’t willing to face head on.

I’m sick of Ds who turn a blind eye during primaries to push someone who won’t do well with moderates (when those issues by ignored come back to bite them).

She is only in her 20s? She looks a lot older,

I am a democrat and hard to see her having much of a career in politics unless she changes course. She is doubling down on the worst of Bernie’s divisiveness. Traveling to other states to get involved in their primaries? She hasn’t even been elected yet.

For my part, I think we are setting the stage to lose again. Perez's statement about Cortez was idiotic. The support she has in Bronx will not transfer to much of the US.

Agree.

Anonymous wrote:There seem to be assumptions that he was talking strictly about her platform when he said Ocasio-Cortez is the future of the Dem Party. While in some areas there is solid support for pieces of her platform, like Medicare for All and state school tuition, loan forgiveness etc, I think what he meant was that young people, women, and people of color are the future of the Democratic Party. With that, I completely agree.

I know not a single rank amd file democrat who agrees with any of these policies, it’s Bernie dreamland. The tax increase necessary to fund even one of these programs, once known to the elctorate, would be enough to defeat any dem seriously supporting them. We can make healthcare and higher education affordable, we can’t make it free.

Haven't you said time and time again that you delete posts from those awful conservatives when they make sweeping generalizations about Democrats? And then YOU make some sweeping (and asinine) claim that Republicans worship Putin? Get a grip.
