Fake News NWDC edition - too appalled to even shake my head

You don't have liberals reading them and taking assault rifles into eateries. Different audience. Liberals just share them on FB! (Thinking of the Trump People Magazine story specifically) What fallout came from the fake People mag story?! How did that hurt him in the least?!

You are sick. Pedophilia is very very rare.

Talk to someone in law enforcement. It is not rare. That doesn't mean I think Podesta was running a ring--but, don't deceive yourself into thinking it is not a serious problem.

I'm sure Comet is blameless here (although it probably would've been wiser not to publicly post any photos of taped-down toddlers in your restaurant), but pedophilia really is a serious problem that is more widespread than many think. And oftentimes people just don't want to believe how pervasive it is because it's such a reprehensible crime. So you get people turning a blind eye when there are indications of abuse, especially if the alleged abuser is someone thought to be upstanding or powerful or prominent in the community. This happened with Sandusky and Savile, and consequently many more kids were abused when their abuse could have been prevented. The abuse in those cases went on for literally decades.

Some of the people "investigating" pizzagate are probably aware of the tendency to sweep these crimes under the rug, and that might be partly what's motivating them to be so dogged here. A lot of them are probably actually well meaning, and maybe someone of them are taking this to such irrational extremes because they themselves were victims of abuse growing up.

Wow, no. The Comet fiasco is entirely due to the scourge of fake news and people creating/promoting it for political reasons. It has nothing at all to do with legitimate work against child abuse. FFS, in the Sandusky case people *literally saw with their own eyes* him raping children and did nothing. That has absolutely zero overlap with what is happening here: a bizarre, possibly politically motivated, internet-mediated conspiracy theory with the foreseeable result of triggering a likely mentally unstable person towards violence.

I'm curious if you get extra points every time you work the trendy new term "fake news" into a post.

What a singularly ineffective attempt at deflection. #pizzagate is the definition of fake news.

Did you not read Jeff's post explaining that this is not "fake news"? Reddit and 4chan are not "news" sites. The people spreading this misinformation are doing so by promoting false rumors and conspiracies on the Internet. They are not posing as legitimate journalists.

You sound almost as clueless and gullible as the people you're so intent on condemning. I feel like next you're going to tell me the whole thing is the work of nefarious Russian spies.

Ok, whatever. The fact that you're so keen on defending the people I am "intent on condemning" and even here debating this at all, shows exactly who you are. I hope you're happy with yourself.

TBH, I'd wager that I'm generally less self-satisfied than you are.

It would be nice if Mike Pence went to Comet this week for some pizza since he lives within walking distance and has been there before.

Maybe while he's there he can call this incident by its true name: Radical Christian Terrorism.

This thread is not specifically and exclusively about the assault rifle incident. If you just want to talk about that, there is a thread in Off-Topic you should go to.

Is it Christians, though, or is it right wingers? Radical Right Wing Terrorism might be more accurate.

Yet they voted and support someone who literally brags about sexually assaulting people. They NO leg to stand on here; this is just more irrational Clinton hatred.

And the people who swept Sandusky's horrible crimes under the rug and still think football is a good excuse for anything? The same "real Americans" who voted for Trump.

Wow, it must be nice to see the world in such stark and simple terms, where you're always the one wearing the white hat.

It is, thank you.

The comet ping pong situation reaches far beyond the assault rifle incident. If you're not aware of this, I suggest you do some background reading.

But I'm sure it's easier to just condemn lots of people as evil or stupid or whatever.

While we can't be sure of who started it, we know who's continued it. Gen. Flynn, Trump's choice to be National Security Advisor some weeks ago retweeted false news about Hillary. The worst is that yesterday after the gunman incident was reported, Flynn's son and current 'chief of staff' was Tweeting that 'pizzagate' hadn't been disproven.

"On Sunday, Flynn’s son, Michael Flynn Jr., tweeted, “Until #Pizzagate proven to be false, it'll remain a story. The left seems to forget #PodestaEmails and the many ‘coincidences’ tied to it."

Shocking.

Edgar M. Welch said in an arraignment released on Monday that he had read online that the Comet Ping Pong restaurant in Northwest Washington was “harboring child sex slaves, and he wanted to see for himself if they were there,” according to court documents.

He was armed to help rescue children but surrendered peacefully “when he found no evidence that underage children were being harbored in the restaurant.”

This is not that bad, people. He just wanted to be sure it was OK in there.
