DPR in DC now charging for rec centers

Totally in agreemebt that this was not piblicized appropriately, and it does burn to think of the extra taxes on massages, gyms, exercise classes, and now this. But I think the fees will actually help make things less of a free for all. The pools may be more focused on swimming. I am a swimmer and avoid the pools in the summer months entirely bc of the lack of maintenance, dirty water, and unruly behavior. Maybe some of that unruly behavior will be diverted towards splash parks, and the pools will be better for swimming.

I guarantee all the vitriol is from one single wronged person. We also live in Ward 6 and I'm a big fan of Charles Allen. He is incredibly responsive and thoughtful, at least in the limited dealings I've had with him. And I haven't heard anything otherwise from neighbors or friends in Ward 6.

21:50 again: Which is not to say that I don't think this plan is crazy. I do not see the rationale for the fees at all. DC is a rich city with a lot of poor residents. I hate to see anything like this that discourages poor kids from using these nice facilities that are built because of gentrification.

Allen sits on the committee with oversight responsibilities for DPR. He owes the community an explanation as to why this change wasn't made known to his constituents do they could have attended the hearing and expressed their views. Shameful.

I actually thought I followed the news pretty closely but I guess I missed this. DC has many children and families living in poverty. No fees should be assessed when using public facilities. I mean really? Don't we want our city's children to have access to rec centers, pools and fields?

You must not get out much. Most people find Charles Allen to be utterly useless. How is he responsive? Sure he's quick to set up a meeting or email something really patronizing. When it comes to action, he's gone. He disgusts me and I am absolutely not alone.

The indoor pools that go to our beautiful. I don't know what you're talking about.

The Eastern Market pool is absolutely disgusting and the baby pool is never filled. The other pools I've been to are fairly nice, but still lack some basic things like hooks in the shower area for your towel ... I'm fine with paying $5 but will expect more now.

Haha! No do you really think they're going to hire people who actually do their jobs, like clean the pool? Please. It will be the same disgusting pool but we will be paying for everyone else.

I would love to hear what you think Charles Allen has done for Ward 6. The security camera thingy at really benefitted Wards 7 and 8? Last I checked Eliot Hine is still not renovated. The middle school situation in general is a mess. Safety concerns abound with crime at an all time high. Ths RFK Stadium was botched. Anything else? Safety, schools, and public spaces - all mishandled. Charles Allen is a failure.

Did DPR actually send out an email about the proposed regulations asking for public comment? I wish my council member would have notified his constituents; they were published for public comment in January!

No, I got an email the other day announcing the fees. A quick skim I gleaned that some fees for field access were changing.
