Homeless families are huge financial burdens on any jurisdiction. I don't think any childern (including yours) should suffer a bad education. I think all fcps should be great schools. Hopefully with 3 new school board members we will see some change.

Given the high ESOL population, the only way to fix the problem is enforcing the housing code or gentrification of the area. Sticking that high percentage of high needs kids in any school, even if it's smaller in size, will always result in low performing schools. The 3 New school board members will make no difference on this front.

Couldn't agree more, that's why I support busing.

Culmore has 4 big apt complexes. Split em up between 4 wealthy elementary schools in other parts of the county.

So how are the parents without cars who can walk from Culmore to Bailey's going to get to the Langley schools?

LOLZ you guys are silly lots of kids in Culmore go to Glen Forest ES. The real issues is FCPS sucks predicting growth, just look at the over crowed "New" Graham Road ES only added 30 seats not the 200 that are actually needed.

Glen Forest is more problematic than Bailey's in many ways, because the county throws more money at Bailey's.

I don't see any local system that has a great track record with projections. I doubt, for example, that APS would have consciously set out to have 450-500 more students at W-L than Yorktown or Wakefield. The goal ought to be more transparency about the projections and what factors result in the variances.

As for Glen Forest, the ES enrollment in the Stuart pyramid is now tapering off and they can redraw the boundaries to send more kids to Beech Tree and Parklawn if needed.

City of FC is known for good schools and different from FC. Different tax different school systems. Falls Church High is for Falls Church, VA, which is part of Fairfax County school system. 22046 is the zip with good schools.

Falls Church in zip code 22043 also feeds into good schools (Marshall/McLean).

Glen forest has nearly 1200 students in a school designed to serve 600. You'd have to redistrict hundreds of kids.

The school has a capacity of 1100 (when you include the modulars), and an enrollment of about 1040, not 1200.

But if they need to redistrict kids there is space at other elementary schools in the Stuart pyramid now.

Assessments for 2016 in the Falls Church part of Fairfax County increased more than any other part of the county. The mean is now more expensive than Burke, Reston or Springfield.

I've said for a while that people buying into that area would continue to see nice appreciation. Schools can be a lagging indicator of trends, but expect to see Falls Church's fortunes improve, particularly once it is renovated over the next decade.

Why would you say that? Neighborhoods like Greenway Downs and City Park Homes are now at all-time highs. You have people priced out of North Arlington moving to Falls Church and South Arlington.

FCHS is now on the renovation queue. When it gets renovated, that will be a boost for the school.

Just had my FCHS home appraised. Bought in 2008 for $450K. So praised at $650K. Current mortgage is $350K. Inside the beltway, convenient to transit, easy access to 495, I-66, Route 7 and Tysons. 30 minutes to downtown DC. Things is lookin' good.

Look at the history

Falls Church High is still way below and it is flat lined

The other high schools in falls church are doing much better

Marshall/McLean

McLean / George Mason

In other words, if you bought in the FCHS district any time other than roughly 2005-07, you'd be ahead now.

The BOS needs to enforce occupancy requirements if they want to see greater tax returns on these houses and an improved high school. The location is prime.
