Person is not a student.

Drug dealer? Gang member?

Yup. The police owe us clarity on this. The 19 year old is likely involved in one or the other, or even both, since gangs use drug dealing to generate money.

It's often a fight over a girl, or something dumb like one kid stole another kids airpods, and that kid came with a gun to threaten to get them back, and then things got out of hand. Teenagers and guns are a terrible combination.

Yes, we are desperate for safety in the schools. And of our kids could be the next victim.

You’re just desperate to not own the fact that you don’t give a shit about gun control. If you cared about kids, believe me, you would not be talking this way.

It’s pathetic, your pathetic you’re desperate to stand up for pedophiles and women abusers and pretend you care about kids

You ok? Guns are already out there.

What does this have to do with anything? Is Marcus Jones, the father of the shooter?

What is Marcus Jones’s role?

What exactly is he paid so much to do?

These criminals are illegally buying their guns from other criminals. They do not care about laws they do not care about gun free school zones, they do not care about Maryland’s background check or seven day waiting period. What exactly do you expect Marcus Jones to do? The shooting was outside of the school in the parking lot so even common sense measures like magnetometers would not have worked.

If you want blame somebody blame the politicians who have been soft on crime. Blame the judges who give lenient to nonexistent sentencing for violent crimes. Blame the parents who don’t parent their children.

This. Marcus Jones is not to blame for this.

He is to blame. My kid went to Blake last year. Kids weren’t allowed off campus but she knew many kids going out to eat at lunch. The rules were never enforced. Marcus’s job is to make sure safety rules are enforced.

This is common at many schools b

I have had kids at two different schools with open lunch and I VERY much hope they don't cancel open lunch. It would be an utter sh*t show to try to feel all those kids in the overcrowded building. Being able to exit the building to get food is a really important part of being able to focus for afternoon classes for many kids.

I don't know what happened today, but basically every time one of these shootings has happened, it has been some beef from the community where someone came to find the teen at school because they knew that's where to find them. Of course, I'm sure these kids aren't crack shots, so even when it's that kind of situation, there's always a good chance that they will hit someone other than the intended victim.

Someone asked what SROs could do -- one of the goals of the SRO program was to be tapped into the school community so that if some student became aware that a beef was brewing, they could alert the SRO who could then just happen to be present at the right time/place to avert the issue. Of course, this didn't happen 100% of the time, but it did happen at least sometimes --- and the public never heard about the fights that didn't happen because an SRO was standing there in the right place at the right time. Of course, gun control would be the most effective way to minimize school shootings, but the Supreme Court has said we can't have that in this country.

Also, the current ID system is a joke. I don't know how hard it would be to install ID readers at the entrances to all the high schools, like what most people have at their offices now. So even if you are going out to a portable, you would have to swipe to get back into the building.

Safety. It’s hard to monitor who should and shouldn’t be on campus.

Where did they go to eat? There is literally nothing in walking distance? Probably the main reason they’re not allowed open lunch.

They go into Olney or the Burger King or Safeway up the road

Instead of prohibiting kids from eating lunch outside, why not work on better security measures to prevent randos from coming on campus to start fights with students?

The Banner has a lot more details. Gombo was there to pick up a friend to smoke weed and it sounds like the gun might not have been his?

https://www.thebanner.com/community/criminal-justice/djibia-gombo-glock-19-blake-high-NE7PPCV4HNFTFOR53XVPMKDRYY/

According to a police report, video of the incident begins with “a physical fight occurring between several students.”

Amid a struggle for the weapon, “a gunshot can be heard,” which dispersed some of those fighting.

A school district security officer rushed to the scene as the fight for the gun continued. According to court records, someone got control of the gun and placed it on the ground by the security officer, who “kicked the firearm further away from the group.”

The security officer then saw Gombo pick up the gun and begin walking toward a Kia and told him to drop it.

“Back up, Back up,” Gombo responded as he pointed the gun at the security officer, according to court records.

Gombo then placed the gun on the ground next to the Kia and the security officer pinned him against the vehicle.

The recovered gun had a “spent casing which was still lodged in the firearm and never ejected,” according to court records, which also said the wounded student was dropped off at a local hospital by other students.

Gombo told police that he had come to the school to pick up a friend so they could smoke marijuana when he saw his friend in a fight between two groups of students. He said he ran when the gun fired and that his decision to pick the gun up was a “stupid mistake,” court records said.
