How will they get these days back?

DCPS regularly is open when MCPS is closed. Lots of differences, once of which is that they don’t have buses.

But one of the excuses that MCPS is making is sidewalks. The sidewalks in DC are not all clear either. All of the other MD districts are open with a delay. Conditions are unlikely to improve today and it's ridiculous to just wait until the snow and ice melt.

Overall, this region has had a tough time responding to this storm. It's not just MCPS. But I agree with PPs in other threads that MCPS really needs a superintendent from the northeast or midwest that has more experience with weather events and more importantly has more of a can-do attitude. It's not just that schools are still closed a week after the storm, since Taylor has been superintendent MCPS admin offices (and consequently childcare) have closed on days that they previously would have been open.

Some of us don’t have sidewalks so kids walk in the street.

SOunds like a good day to drive your kids. When you purchase in a house in a neighborhood without sidewalks, you need a backup plan for days it's too dangerous to walk in the streets. You surely cannot expect a school district to stay shut until all the ice melts.

Or you know drivers can YIELD to pedestrians and SLOW DOWN. The road is not only for cars. Bikes and people have the right to be on the roads.

The announcement is coming any minute now. My bet is on Closed Tuesday. Situation in neighborhood roads is not any different. If buses could not pass today, nothing will be changed tomorrow. If open tomorrow, then why closed today?

I think, in the grand scheme of things, given today's socio-economic-political reality, this snow storm is showing us how social contract is really strained and starting to crack. I am curious how this storm would have been handled 20-30 years ago, acknowledging less cars, less kids, less congestion.

FCPS just announced they're open Tuesday with 2 hr delay.

I think MCPS will follow suit...

...even though both systems claimed streets were impassable today, but magically everything will be perfect tomorrow! Idiots. They both could have opened today.

They don't have any more excuses when every other county opened today.

Schools will open tomorrow with the 2 hour elay.

There were other counties that closed. But I agree that as openings roll in that increases pressure to open.

It was never about the state of the roads or bus stops. It was about what made them look responsible. Now they understand that most parents really want them to open, they will open. But since they need to justify their announcement, they come up with all sorts of ridiculous reasons that don't make sense. If it truly was about the sidewalks and streets, we'd be closed until March.
