Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
| Open on Thursday after the Wed snow and before Fri snow |
What’s your evidence they wouldn’t join? Kids were online for almost a year for covid. By now even the laziest kid is getting bored at home. |
Only 5th graders and up were in school during Covid, all the younger ones (my 4th grader included) only started K after schools were back in person. So no current K-4 have not done remote school. |
| If you really want the schools open, get out there with a shovel. Clear your sidewalk and your neighbors. Clear the neighborhood bus stop. Go over to the school and clear the sidewalks in the areas around. It’s easy to criticize when you aren’t doing the labor. It’s time for the community to band together to make things happen. |
| I’m thinking if they stay closed Tuesday when it’s supposed to be warmer, a lot of progress can be made for reopening Wednesday. |
That's what we did over in "historic" Greenbelt. Then again, people there self-select for a more communal place. A bunch of us also went over each afternoon this past xeek to nearby schools with shovels, sand, and salt and got it done. If one of you said "let's roll," teachers would probably show up and help, but we need like one beer per hour of work. Many hands do make for light work. |
Tuesday is a high of 35. It’ll make basically no difference. |
Look at the forecast again. Tuesday is only briefly above freezing. Just enough to melt a little bit of snow so that it turns to ice overnight on the previously cleared sidewalks and roads. |
You said “no one would join.” What’s your evidence that all these kids who were online for a year Gr5 and up wouldn’t join and that parents of kids K-4 wouldn’t have their kids join. The chat group at my kid’s ES is full of angry parents who can’t figure out why all the school districts around us have either virtual school or in person school but MCPS has nothing but snow day videos. |
It’s only 50/50 chance snow Wednesday and nothing I see for Friday now |
You're going to need more than that for this stuff. Are you handing out shovels? Back support for those that need it to shovel? Better shoes? Wool socks? Coat? Hats? Gloves? Hot chocolate? |
Snow in forecast for Wed |
|
DC was handing out salt.
Can Montgomery hand out SAND? Open up a few sites around the county. People will come by with a bucket. Could that be organized, Montgomery County Council staff who read these forums? |

NP- I posted on the other thread as well. This is a JOKE. Seriously. Virtual is still better than no learning for this length of time.
Just cancel Spring Break and make up lost days. |
| Why can't we just say, "Get your kid to school. We'll handle the rest." People are obviously going to grocery stores and running errands...why can't they get their kids to school. All this nonsense about sidewalks and bus stops is a distraction - just get your kid to school. If you can't do it, call a neighbor/friend so you can carpool. If your kid's education is a priority - just like making sure your house has groceries - then you will find a way. |
