Ok then let yout young Aug/Sept player play down a grade in school. Pay full price for competitive soccer and watch your kid get ignored by college coaches when its time for recruitment.

When you get in charge of a team or league, you can make the rules. Until then, announcements are play on age, superstars play up.

Yes you do pay the bills unless your kid is on some kind of scholorship. If clubs choose to play your kid on a grade down team go somewhere else. Its obvious they dont take college recruitment seriously. Its also obvious they dont value your kid or they wouldn't be screwing them over on a grade down team.

Yeah. I get what you are saying. What age is your kid? Because I think that makes a pretty big difference in how this is dealt with and the emotions that go along with it. I am now going through this twice. The first time around was when everything was switched from previous SY type cutoffs to birthyear. That was when my DS was playing U10. He had a great team and we were looking forward to things, but suddenly when the teams changed to BY, my son was only one of 3 kids left on the team. All the other kids were moving "up" from what they thought was U11 to U12. There was a ton of scrambling to find them places. It was really a pretty big disruption because he had a pretty good group of kids and parents. While we obviously had no choice to move age groups, we weren't thrilled about it. That's my selfish opinion.

At the time, my DD was playing U-Little rec so it didn't matter for her, but now she is playing U17 ECNL. She's not going to be impacted at all because she's an early January B-Day and is in a good spot on her current team. But, there are plenty of players that will be impacted and it will be interested to see how things fall out. The grin it and bear it makes sense, but sometimes is just tough to do. Good Luck to all!

Tell the kids the truth and deal with the reality. Regardless of age.

If you get a new job or new house you'll easily tell the kid about those life changes

Honest question, what do kids do who were held back in school and now age out of club before they have their senior year? Gap year or what??

There are a bunch of these kids at my local ECNL watering hole.

It doesn't. Being the youngest is always the bad scenario. July, June and May eat crow. Aug, Sep and Oct will be set up. Clubs and leagues got this. Play on age.

Soccer clubs will make the best teams, with generally older kids and not focus on grades as they have stated. It will be ok just like it is now. Accept SY as an improvement over BY for recruiting and move on. Everybody else did.

They have to put in the work just like anyone else. Contact coaches, highlight videos, attend ID camps. If a coach is interested and attending the showcase they will come see them just like they see anyone not misaligned on their list.
