Emory-24
BC-36
Tufts-37
GWU- 59
Umiami-64
Tulane-69

You're trying to piss off Emorymom.

Tufts, BU, BC, Northeastern are all in one tranche. Emory is an oddball university but obviously is much closer to these schools than it is to the elite privates like Duke or Georgetown.

Emory is a better school than Georgetown be serious. Georgetown isnt good at anything of substance.

Umass and BC don’t have similar outcomes in boston

It is actually pretty rare to see umass gear in back bay

Much more common to see nescacs and bc

This is very accurate. I think the larger convo around that should be how UMass is perceived in state and the profile of instate kids that attend. At nearly $40k instate COA, it does itself no favors!

Would love to see the heat map of which cities / towns send their kids to UMass… anecdotally, it feels like instate kids will take a slightly worse private over UMass.

Lol. Georgetown is not elite. It is much closer to Emory, etc than Duke.

Then what is elite then? T10? Cause Berkeley, UCLa, Vandy etc aren't elite either if these aren't.

Emory is not an automatic pick over schools like USC, NYU, and also the Boston schools (Tufts, BU, BC, NU)

Georgetown is special in terms of student source and future career. It is not easy to compare it with common universities.

Its the majority pick like the other schools like it. The only reason ot pick those over Emory is if DC was engineering or just hated the south. Which would beg the question why even apply to Emory.

So its a nepotism school? Either way, Emory is historically ranked higher and has better grad school programs except law. The fact that GU is still T25 is a miracle really.

The UMass outcomes are very comparable to those of BC.

Didn’t Hunter Biden graduate from Georgetown.

NYU 56% Emory 44%

Majority picked USC and NYU.

This is not an obvious answer because it depends on your major and interests. If pre-med, some have great resources but turn out hundreds of applicants to compete against for med school (Emory a good example).

Your program and plan matter a lot.

Agree. In my DC’s school, Emory constantly takes the students who targeted ivies but were edged out. They are generally top overall but not the tippy top ones.

Nothing special about Emory. It’s WashU lite.

Interesting, as Wake and UNC were basically tied in the rankings for YEARS. I'm not going to get into Duke - I never even considered it and I have no interest in starting a fight over it.

I would imagine Wake is probably more conservative now as the tuition has gone up. Kids were mostly apolitical when I was there. My sorority was a pretty good mix of views. Many of my friends who were on the R side then have come more towards the middle. I don't think any of them are boosters of the current potus.

Just correcting a few errors in the prior two posts:

Wake is less conservative than a few decades ago because the percentage of kids not from the south has greatly increased.

Nor is it in the shadow of UNC. In state kids see UNC differently than oos because it just isn’t that hard to get in, especially with kids coming from the more rural parts of the state. Duke, different story.

Has it? There were plenty of kids from all over when I was there. Plenty from up and down the east coast (even a couple of us DE weirdos , I had friends from St Louis and Chicago, Washington State, Colorado. It would be interesting to see a breakdown from the 90s vs now.

I personally think that’s mainly because of location. Tons of 18-yrs old love NY. LA too.
