The republicans ran now a three time loser for governor of NJ. Talk about a shitty candidate. I agree on Jones…but again, Miyares bizarrely ran on national issues that would keep him in the good graces of Trump but were against VA interests. If he really wanted to win he would have read the room. |
| Miyares will be in the trump administration in 3…2…. |
He’s a textbook bootlicker and always has been. Nothing new there. |
| Anyone has Purcellville, Loudoun County, results? |
|
Yes to Spanberger.
No to the Tysons casino. |
| Firm NO to casino. |
Yes, we are going to have to fight this again. |
If you are well-informed, then you know that over the past 6 months states have had to repeatedly sue the federal government to protect citizens, get federal funds that should have been delivered but weren't, and generally keep the federal government out of state business. So if you care about schools, taxes, and crime, then right now you have to care about how a governor or AG will deal with Trump. |
Casino support seems very uncorrelated to party affiliation |
| The bigger story, IMO, is Democrats picking up like 13 or 14 seats in the House of Delegates in VA. |
Everyone should be against gambling. |
Loudon was the first to report at about 7:30-8:00! Loudoun Spanberger +29 12 pts. 12 points more Democratic 164,366 |
Why? It's a source of revenue, and jobs are disappearing from Virginia like crazy. Obviously, nobody wants gambling addicts, any more than we want to have alcoholics, but no one is against having bars (apart from some religious fundamentalists). |
It’s that the “revenue” is largely coming from the people who can least afford to provide it. Everyone hopes to lure the whales when they open a casino, but gambling is fundamentally a poor man’s pastime. I don’t know anyone in my UMC community that goes to MGM or Charlestown for fun. Even Vegas is passé. |
This. It’s a regressive tax, just like the lottery. Rich people like these taxes because it doesn’t it rich people and means they get to pay less in taxes. |
