APS providing dinner

Get over yourself.

There is no political statement in the announcement. There is no blame to anyone. Are you blaming Youngkin for being political for help people on snap? Is the county political for emergency donations to AFAC?

APS has cafeterias, food service employees and efficient access to food distribution.

It’s an efficient temporary response to thousands of federal employees who have not received a paycheck for more than a month and nearly as many families who are only getting partial SNAP benefits.

The other benefit is bringing people together. It's a crazy time if you're a fed. My kid has practice after school and we're going to stay for dinner when we pickup. It's small but it's helpful.

Truly disgusting.

Feeding hungry kids and families isn’t a political statement. It’s called the right thing to do. Everyone is a human. Somehow the Republican Party has forgotten that.

Republicans are vile POSs every chance they get. Can they for once just try to do the right thing? WTF is wrong with them?

I've been asking myself this for years now. The cruelty is the point.

Your head would explode if APS did that. You just want to complain.

No because I would rather give them money rather than give it to still employed school cafeteria workers working extra hours and APS staff to administer it.

BS. You gave up the game when you said a few hot meals made people dependent.

The cafeteria workers have low wages and some are probably on SNAP. This gives them a few extra paid hours.

Other staff (principals, syphax) are salaried and won’t benefit.

No that was a different "hater" I didn't say that.
But see how the goodness of this keeps moving to make it just undeniably the bestest way... it's to help feed APS families in need... it's to feed APS families and anyone else in need... it's to feed everyone in need and increase earnings for low paid workers...

Just own you BS. I'm going to Safeway to buy stuff for Scouting for Food.

Guess you don't know the expression "win-win". It's a reasonable temporary plan.

What stigma. Plenty of people love free stuff. You see how they have no shame when they claim benefits they don't qualify for.

It’s a temporary program limited to 250 meals a night at each high school. It will be ok. APS doesn’t need to quiz people on when they ate their last meal.

I care about programs including 250 meals a night at school going to people who actually need them.

I volunteered at a “soup kitchen” that served a great meal every Sunday for years. No questions asked and all were served. The people who showed up were in need and ranged from obviously homeless to families with kids

Even the volunteers rarely ate the food even though they were allowed to. It’s a different mindset than who would line up for a $100 gift card.

Please stop with the virtue signaling. I remember when everyone was supposed to donate one apple or similar at Discovery for AFAC. A huge deal was made of this. It’s simply for optics and to make everyone feel good about themselves. The PTA and other PTAs nearby are drawing more money than you know what to do with.

Meanwhile, at other APS schools half the schools families supply Thanksgiving meals, winter clothing and school supplies for the other half of the school, every year, and the needs and numbers are increasing. There is very little money in the PTAs.

Please don’t pat yourself on the back for growing a few vegetables at Discovery. If you are not partnering with a less wealthy APS school and sending a portion of your PTA funds to them you have nothing to brag about. It’s those less wealthy schools’ families and teachers that are doing all the heavy lifting to meet the needs of a very large portion of the student population in Arlington.

It’s probably going to be low income immigrants families who show up. And low income older kids bringing their younger siblings for a hot meal while parents work.

Nothing will be verified, and no questions asked.
That’s why I think Federal families will not show up. They will think others need this more, and that’s probably correct. Federal families will need other support soon, but so far I’ve seen nothing from Arlington County or APS. Offers of delayed (but still full) payments probably.
