washer/dryer in the basement bad idea?

I cannot imagine making a homebuying decision based on a laundry room location.
I've had them in every level - I think my favorite is probably on the upper level near bedrooms. But, in your case, I think I'd probably prefer it in my lower level over my main level (which is really just the living area; no bedrooms).
