You are not entitled to money prior to marriage. If he paid for everyting on the condo, why are you entitled to it? He will be entitled to your savings you earned during marriage. |
It sounds like he paid for all the housing and other things. Your attorney should figure this out. |
So you paid off your loans while he saved and paid for housing and other things? |
Yea so back to the point that VA isn’t community property. You won’t get 50% of the assets that he accumulated while married. You’re going to spend a fortune litigating this divorce and end up close to his initial offer. In his mind, paying the lawyers versus you is probably a win. You’ll unfortunately lose out with the legal costs. |
Yep. |
| How are you so sure of all this? He has about 2.5-3M saved away, meanwhile I probably have close to 600-700K. |
| By your logic a stay at home wife would be entitled to nothing if her husband bought a house, put down the DP, made the mortgage payments etc. she’d be left with nothing because she didn’t contribute to the home? That’s NOT how equitable division in VA works. |
The statutes in Va are clear. Why would you think you are entitled to half of his savings from a short marriage, where finances were entirely separate, and he paid for all housing? You just paid debts and accumulated a huge amount of savings? |
No one said she’d get nothing. But she’s not getting 50% for not providing any financial contributions to the family and OP has no idea of the money is premarital. The law also values SAHM moms which OP was not. |
| What qualifies as financial contributions to the family. Grocery, vacation, renovations, cleaning lady, nanny, landscaping, paid for all furniture, hosted parties |
Lol. Yea, go to court and talk about how you paid for vacations, landscaping, parties etc. And your husband paid for housing. See how far that gets you. Why are you not asking your lawyer for this information? You have a really rose colored glass view of what you’ll get and your lawyer is in the best spot to answer. |
| Why are you rude? |
Why are you here trying to get people to provide you information but are incapable of providing clear answers? |
| What do you want to know? |
Several people have asked you what your lawyer has said about the financials. I would like to know why you always create a new post instead of replying directly to a question or comment. |
