| The government shutdown isn’t because Democrats refused to vote, it’s because Republicans are divided on how to fund the government. Even with a majority, they need unity to pass a budget. When they can’t agree, they turn to Democrats for votes. No deal, no funding, and that’s how a shutdown happens. |
No. That’s why the democrats wanted Schumer to let the republicans shut it down last time, but he didn’t. The BBB already passed. |

LAX flights halted because of staffing shortages and trainee controllers dropping out of the academy. Let’s go ATCs!!! Let’s go TSA and flight attendants’ union!! We’re relying on you to end this.
|
This won’t be the issue you think it is. The billionaire class fly private jets and can land anywhere, at uncontrolled smaller airports. Then have a helicopter make up any distance. They do this often anyways, because large airports like LAX can introduce delays. |

“Largest federal workers union calls for an end to the shutdown, putting pressure on Democrats”:
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/afge-largest-federal-workers-union-end-shutdown-rcna239767 |
Odd, their statements does not mention Democrats. Why did NBC editorialize the content? “ “Both political parties have made their point, and still there is no clear end in sight,” American Federation of Government Employees President Everett Kelley wrote in a statement first shared with NBC News. “It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today. No half measures, and no gamesmanship.”” |
They editorialized the headline, which they do all the time. For the largest federal employee union to call for Dems to pass the “clean” CR, it does put pressure on them. If they’ve lost the union that’s been fighting the administration on RIFs, etc… |
It does put pressure on Democrats if the union is calling on Congress to pass a clean CR, which is what Republicans have been voting for and Democrats have been voting against (I understand why they’re voting against it, but it’s a factual statement that this puts pressure on Dems). |
It will for the non-billionaire population that doesn't have access to private jets, wants to travel for Thanksgiving, and otherwise thinks it is not impacted by the shutdown. It's what saved us in 2019. |
Exactly. These reps have their eyes on the mid-terms. |
This would greatly impact working people at the top of corporations that do not use private planes. All of the partners at my large top firm fly commercial usually weekly. |
While Rs are worse for feds let's not pretend the dems are the friends of federal employees either. They're just the less worse of the two which is all to say they dont care what feds think. |
| What are the thoughts about the upcoming local elections in November? Is that likely to help move the needle? |
This is a ridiculous take. The republicans are literally trying to inflict as much pain on federal workers as possible. They hate federal workers. The democrats care a lot about federal workers - they just care about other vulnerable people too. |
Both parties probably want to wait until after the election before compromising in any way on the shutdown. |
