Thoughts on dogs in grocery stores?

It is my #1 peeve in a world that makes me peevish at every turn.

Peeve #1.5 is people who say "my dog is better than your child." I want to send those people to live on an island because they are fundamentally ill-equipped to be part of a functional society.

Actual service dogs performing actual services are easy to spot, especially in a sea of Covid-era pups. Some of the are well trained. My dog doesn't like to be home alone as we rarely leave her home alone. Home depot , pet stores and other stores allow it.

I don't get this. How are dogs unsanitary? If anything, your shoes walk in bathrooms and then walk all over the store. The dog is the same...

My shoes aren't on the merchandise, the carts, or other people, nor do they shit/piss/drool on the floor.

I highly doubt you've seen dogs crawling on the produce. The carts are nasty with or without dogs.

I would never bring a dog to the store, but I don't get how riled up people get about the sanitary aspect. Being out in public is a germ fest.

because a lot of us don't love dogs. I generally don't mind them but most of the dogs my neighbors have seem to not be bathed often. If you pet their dog, your hand will stink.

They do lick their butts and then lick everything else. The people who let their logs lick their faces are disgusting. People can have similar inappropriate attitudes towards cats too. I was invited to eat at a neighbor's house and the entire time one or all of their 3 cats were up on the table with us. One cat was eating the cheese the neighbors put out as an appetizer and they chastised me for shooshing the cat away.

Dogs that are not legitimate service animals do not belong in stores, period. Grocery or otherwise.
Modern urban dog ownership is often accompanied by mental health issues and should have it's own section in the DSM-5.
