Thoughts on dogs in grocery stores?

And if you think your dog doesn’t sniff at the produce , you’re wrong. While you’re on your phone, your dog puts his nose right on the apples. I see it. It’s repulsive.

You do wash your apples before eating, right? There's much more dangerous stuff than dog saliva on them!

She doesn’t like dog’s anuses, and the same tongues that clean their butt also lick the noses that they’re putting on the apples.

Ah. So she’s NOT washing her apples.

Whether or not she washes her apples is irrelevant. Are you saying that in any conceivable scenario, traces of your dog's shit belong on them?

It is my #1 peeve in a world that makes me peevish at every turn.

Peeve #1.5 is people who say "my dog is better than your child." I want to send those people to live on an island because they are fundamentally ill-equipped to be part of a functional society.

Don't be these people. And they're not service dogs. You can tell the difference in the dog's behavior and the person's. Even if they don't have a visible disability. It's just their dog thst they take everywhere.

I think a lot of these owners are attention whores. They think their dogs are so cute that you will give them attention.

Actual service dogs performing actual services are easy to spot, especially in a sea of Covid-era pups. If you NEED a service dog, I hope you have one, and I hope that all the liars, posers, boundary-pushers and excusemakers stay home with their poorly-trained animals and keep out of your way. Your fscking Havanese that just took a crap on the floor isn't performing a service and you and I both know it. Go home.

Some of the are well trained. My dog doesn't like to be home alone as we rarely leave her home alone. Home depot , pet stores and other stores allow it.

Honestly, who the F cares if your dog doesn't like to be home alone? So what?

Train your dog, and it'll be fine at home.

But honestly, I suspect it's mostly emotionally unstable owners who have attachment issues. Or attention seeking issues.

Agreed. Why are the dog's alleged feelings being given greater priority than basic health and human sanitation in human-specific environments? that's mental.

I don't get this. How are dogs unsanitary? If anything, your shoes walk in bathrooms and then walk all over the store. The dog is the same...

My shoes aren't on the merchandise, the carts, or other people, nor do they shit/piss/drool on the floor.

I highly doubt you've seen dogs crawling on the produce. The carts are nasty with or without dogs.

I would never bring a dog to the store, but I don't get how riled up people get about the sanitary aspect. Being out in public is a germ fest.

because a lot of us don't love dogs. I generally don't mind them but most of the dogs my neighbors have seem to not be bathed often. If you pet their dog, your hand will stink.

They do lick their butts and then lick everything else. The people who let their logs lick their faces are disgusting. People can have similar inappropriate attitudes towards cats too. I was invited to eat at a neighbor's house and the entire time one or all of their 3 cats were up on the table with us. One cat was eating the cheese the neighbors put out as an appetizer and they chastised me for shooshing the cat away.

Your shoes are absolutely spreading shit piss and drool. I'm just saying that the sanitary component isn't there. Dog's mouths are found to be cleaner than human mouths in fact.

That's a load of bs. Your need to equate unalike things is crazy.

Look, weirdos, we all go to the grocery store and it's not like they're overrun with dogs. I can't remember the last time I saw one, in fact. OP and those in her camp are just haters.

Well if you didn't see it, then it must not be happening.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen. But unless you're a hater, it's barely a blip.

Just because I don't want your pet around the food I'm going to consume does not make me a hater.

But it does make you something.

Dogs that are not legitimate service animals do not belong in stores, period. Grocery or otherwise.
Modern urban dog ownership is often accompanied by mental health issues and should have it's own section in the DSM-5.

Noooo because then the self-absorbed jerks would demand accommodation for their diagnosis! A smidgen of consideration for the community is what's needed, and if anyone has any ideas about how to pull people out of their main character delusion, you are our savior and please get to work.

Did you miss this very long thread https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1232367.page ? Dogs everywhere, including grocery stores. There are people who have stopped shopping at certain grocery stores where they have seen a non-service dog.
