Why are so many people such terrible drivers?

Many drivers on the road are from other countries, where driving habits are to say the least, "much different".

Totally agree. I rolled down my window at a stop light and asked the driver next to me: “Whurr you frumm?”

They said Maryland.

Yeah that's a whole other country.

If they had just shot at you instead of answering, then you'd have known they were from Baltimore.

Turn signals. Use your turn signals. I can’t go until I know what you are doing.

OMG this

US driving tests are too easy to pass. More challenging tests and more involved and expensive process would keep some the worst drivers off the road.

People on their phones and people not properly observing right of way. Correcting these two problems would change things greatly.

Most of the countries I visit for work there is basically zero traffic enforcement. No, I don’t visit Germany and Japan. Many of those people from those other countries live here now. Sorry but it is true.

The worst I see are the ICC driver who think its their personal speedway. Even today, in the snow, they *need* to be in front of you. No matter what speed you're already going.

The road is only 19 miles folks and you probably aren't going end-to-end. Going an excessive speed will save negligible time.

Phones and a lack of any meaningful enforcement of laws.

The frequency of speeding, running red lights, and general lack of driving proficiency I observe daily is alarming.

Make sure you have a dash cam to protect yourself. And hope the other driver has insurance.

And how do you do it? You look ahead and see a stopped traffic and you “anticipate” that the car in front of you will start braking hard pretty soon.

One of the main faults in American driving is that drivers don't look ahead at all. At every intersection with a red light, people are going full speed ahead and having to brake late instead of noticing the light is red and just taking their foot off the gas for a stretch. No one notices when someone needs to merge in because no one is paying attention to anything. Drivers in general are painfully clueless.

The truth is that Americans are pretty dumb by world standards. Plus there are tons of immigrants here, driving around (whether they’re legally allowed to do that or not), even if they can’t read English properly.

The standards should be much higher for getting a license and it should be mandatory prison time if you’re caught driving when you’re not legally allowed to do that. If there are no consequences but a slap on the wrist, people will just continue to do whatever they want.

There is no point to turn signals. I turn them on to go from the left to right lane and people box me out ignoring signal. Btw I’m the left lane because of a merge.

People are arrested daily for driving without a license. You would be shocked at the number of people who drive without a license. Just get behind the wheel and pretend it’s GTA.
