This shift is simply due to eliminating Class Size (Pepperdine was super low), % of teachers with advanced degrees, and a priority to increasing the weight of Pell Grant recipients….this destroyed schools like Pepperdine and Tulane / Miami. Makes no sense to me…. |
You shouldn’t care about meaningless rankings. These are all 3 great schools for the right kid. You cant go wrong with either one if you have the money. |
+1 (if you have the money). |
I know this was a sarcastic comment, but spot on. ![]() |
Wonder which one of these 3 will be the most affected by our gov war on education. |
We just toured Pepperdine with our rising Sr. We also toured Miami 2 weeks ago. Wow. You can’t beat that campus setting. Incredible. The staff, so nice. Went above and beyond accommodating us for the tour. They have this new $300M project being built that looks amazing. It will put most school’s health centers/gym to shame, and with a view of the pacific….. I really liked the liberal arts college. It is basically a liberal arts school for undergraduates. Close knit community. Safe environment for a girl. While we did like Miami, it is a different universe. My daughter was leaning Miami until she went to Malibu. Let’s see what the application season brings us. |
The new project is called Mountain at Mullin park….$150M, not $300M, but yes. It will be amazing for a school of this size:

That looks amazing…most schools freaking out about federal funding and Pepperdine spending $150M on student centers…. |
I guess these expensive privates will be hurt when it comes to student loans. |
of the 3, Miami is the only one making testing a requirement in the Fall. You can still apply too Tulane and Pepperdine test optional. |
Miami is different than Tulane and Pepperdine.
Tulane and Pepperdine are like Liberal Arts colleges. It is a different set up that allows you to explore different majors/subjects, etc. Pick accordingly. |
At our school in Boston, Miami has become a very popular university in the last 3 years. What was that about? |
Simple. Miami is a decent school. Hovering around the T50 mark for a while. A LOT of wealthy families in the last 4-5 years have relocated from New England/NY/NJ/Philly to South Florida.
The university continues to invest and hire top professors. Gateway to Latin America. Great weather (minus hurricanes), super diverse cosmopolitan city, wealthy but diverse student body. Great programs…..what is not to like beside the price? |
Agree. Other than Hurricane and possibly Miami being a crazy party town that could be dangerous for those who are out of the home for the first time, you are correct. Great school that should continue to improve in the rankings.
Very different than Pepperdine. That is a more closer knit community. Perfect for the Christian kid that is not looking for a rah rah party school and wants to explore other subjects given their liberal arts undergrad focus. |
I wish there were more T100 schools like Pepperdine. This generation needs Christ. |
