How does FIT/WIN time work? Any intel on what central office is saying about it for next year?

Are any schools doing math enrichment for K or 1st graders doing FIT/WIN time and if so what does it look like?

At our school yes - they do things like choose an animal, look up some facts on pebble go, and then draw a picture of the animal and write a fact or two about it.

WIN stands for “what I need “ and FIT stands for” focused instructional time.“ In our school the kids work on things like a novel study three days a week and drill math facts with a fun game the other two days.

In our school we have FIT and kids are assigned one place to go for the entire quarter. My kid went with her compacted math teacher to do math writing (I.e. answering the annoy wing explain your thinking Eureka problems) while her ELA teacher did the CKLA fluency supplement.

This is our school too, but it’s for a semester so DD is still in math writing.

Hello!

New Special Ed Paraeducator here. 3-5th grade. My second day on the job, I got to observe what happens during FIT. Paras usually gather about 5 kids and takes them to a small room where they work through a lesson plan (that I assume is provided by the teacher) -however I was told that this information was online. Blending phonics is they worked on today.
In my opinion, every para is different. Some move too fast, and others take their time as they should. But I think it's all timing.
I will add more once finish my first week.

That's not really math. That's literacy skills with research

At our school they don't play, but it's not like they are sitting and doing computer games. For example, my kindergartener chose an animal and used the computer to do research and then wrote and illustrated a short essay about the animal -- with a sentence and picture about habitat, food, etc.

My grade level kiddo is on the computer daily, on Math and ELA learning platforms. Sometimes the teacher will allow them to play video games during that time. This is in K, in a different district.

I just wish those poor little 5 and 6 year olds got more play in their day, and this "extra" 30 minutes of FIT/WIN time would be a great time to do it since my understanding is that it's hard to fit into CKLA and Eureka. IMO they could use some pure free play, but I'm also fine with math-based or literacy-based play "centers"... there are lots of great ways for little kids to learn through play.

I totally agree. We have 25, I think, in K, with one para who, I think, is often pulled to cover other areas. When asked about incorporating centers, they said there's not enough room.
