BMI is no longer considered to be the standard of measurement. You do know the history of it, right?

DP. BMI is a useful, relevant tool used to establish a starting point for analysis and conversation. Everyone knows that. What point do you think you’re making, exactly?

My point is that BMI was created by Nazis during Concentration camps and is considered not an indicator of health:

From your linked article:

“BMI was devised in the 1830s by Lambert Adolphe Jacques Quetelet (1796-1874), a Belgian mathematician, sociologist, statistician and astronomer.”

And BMI is useful as in indication of overweight/obesity (ie fatness). People using it as a proxy for health are not using it for its intended purpose.

When my DD was 14, she'd occasionally agree to go for a run with me. But she was also tired a lot.

DD16 is 5’4 and 115lbs. She hasn’t gained weight since middle school but she has grown three inches. DD13 is 5’2 and 110lbs.

My mistake about bmi and nazi. But you second point you made I agree.

Anonymous wrote:There is not necessarily a "plateau" in weight the way there is in height, OP. But there is no point in comparing her to a girl who is 5'8 and 110 pounds because that is clearly not her body type. I never paid attention to my DD's weight but she was probably at her heaviest in 8th grade and sort of naturally slimmed down a bit in HS. She got her period at 12 but seemed ravenous throughout middle school.

I was around 5'4 and 120 when I got my period at 12, maintained that weight through HS, and now I'm over 50 and I'm at 120. As a teen, I ate a lot of junk and was not active at all. Now, I eat better and I'm moderately active. I do not have the same metabolism or body type as my DD. She's shorter and curvier, eats way less than I do and is just as active.

My mother is my height and thought I should weigh 100 or less because that's what she weighed as a teen - she did a lot of damage (I dropped to under 90 pounds in college). She also liked to compare me to my sister who was 5'9 and 110 pounds. Fun!

+1

My mom and my sister are/were tallish and slender (5’7”ish, 115-120) but I took more after my dad’s side. I was 5’5” 130-135ish in high school & college. Probably a little heavier than most girls at that time. Probably not as much the case today. I was not into sports or exercise but neither was my sister. Our diet was fine/average. Just different builds.

I became more interested in diet and exercise after college and was about 10lbs lighter in my 20s and 30s (even after having babies). Have regained that in my 40s so similar to what I was in HS, but am by no means overweight.

My mom never discussed weight with me or really at all, and always complemented me and built me up.

My 15 year old boy is about 115 and 5’6” and so skinny that he has trouble finding clothes to fit him.

My 13 year old boy is 5'4" and 135 which is an overweight BMI. His doctor said his growth and weight is "great" because she is not looking at it in isolation. She knows his patterns (he used to be chubbier) and can see his muscle growth and other health indicators.

My DD is 6 foot and weighs like 160 150.

We’re gonna need a few more random heights and weights here to get to the bottom of this!

My 12 year old daughter is 5’0” and 128. She’s lost 25 lbs working with an endo, who doesn’t want her to lose any more. She is very active and muscular, and has the right fat % based on the scans we’ve done.

Please don’t go by the number on the scale, everyone is different.
