Oh. Yes. I’m dubious as to his authority or, if he has any, the scope of what he’s likely allowed to do. However, “viable” is such a flexible word. Musk doesn’t care about collateral damage. But this isn’t about legal authority. It’s politics and messaging. The Rs have already convinced their base that some fiscal pain is necessary to make America “great”. So Musk (and the Rs) are betting that this is a political win. By pushing back, the Ds become proponents of fraud and waste and unsustainable fiscal policy. |

Thus far, Musk et al have not disclosed a single instance of fraud. They have gone through the USA Spending site and focused on titles they didn't like or didn't understand and summarily labeled it fraud. They have provided no evidence of fraud. Zero.
Moreover, no one on Musk's team has any training in discovering fraud. Or investigating it. Of course Musk himself is experienced in fraud as he has perpetrated it numerous times over the years. |

This is how the 150 year old thing works. Mr X, 85, takes a young 16 year old bride. Mr X is a social security recipient. When Mr X dies, his bride continues receiving payments as his widow. The payments remain associated to Mr X’s name. When the bride ultimately turns 81, Mr X is “150” in the system. |

NP. The problem with responses like yours is that by going all the way to the extreme of suggesting that any fraud allegations are complete lies, you leave yourself open to be backhanded with the reams of evidence of fraud. You then look like a moron who is trying to cover up fraud. There is indeed fraud. What we need to point out is that processes and procedures already exist to document and address fraud and waste in government spending. What Elon Musk is doing by reinventing the wheel is wasting government resources, driving costs even higher, and it's all a pretext to seize power for himself. |

I think you might be talking about survivor benefits. My mother receives survivor benefits. My dad worked really hard his entire life. Due to the long hours and substantial travel, it was never feasible for my mom to work. She raised us and managed every aspect of our home. I know this is not the norm anymore, but it was at the time and worked well for them. Do you think my mom should not get his SS? Then where should it go? Should she be on the streets and told to “grow up” and learn to take care of herself? |

Pretty much - end of life care is the most expensive aspect and we live in the USA where most folks don't have advanced directives. Republicans don't want death panels, but they also don't want to pay for joe schmoe who has no family, had a major stroke, cannot move nor feed themself, but can still breathe on their own, to be cared for in a nursing home. Or maybe they do have family, but famliy cannot afford to pay 40 hours for a home aide not to mention all the equipment and supplies. Let us know, is there somewhere we just dump them? Wheel them outside to the bus stop? What if they are semi-there and we keep them alive on a vent? What do we do with them? This is the reality of the most expensive aspects of healthcare in the USA. |

The problem is that the way he goes after "fraud" is to kick everyone off of it, then slowly reverse on a case by case basis. In the meantime, millions would suffer. That's how he handled Twitter layoffs and now we see, Fed firings. |
