Many it seems have food trucks to accommodate hungry bodies

My kid’s middle school had BTSN before the school year even started (August 22). Definitely helps to forestall the kid specific questions since the teacher hadn’t even met our kids yet. No food trucks. Traditional format of following your kid’s schedule from class to class. I thought it was fine.

Just do a 5min talk and a 5min power point of class and send them to all classes thru parent vue.

And get rid of BTSN all together

Yes except it’s 4 months since MCPS changed teachers at the semester. I find the traditional format stressful but I appreciate it. Seeing how far my child has to walk between classes is helpful when they tell me that they struggle to get there on time (as I did!). I like seeing the teachers even for just a few minutes to get a sense of them, and I appreciate each teacher explaining how they expect assignments to be turned in, since they are all different.

But for my freshman, all of her teachers but 1 change 2nd semester and she has another new class. So it's stupid to do only one back to school night.

So why not have each teacher upload a syllabus, their rules, grading, teaching style and a little video about the class, etc... Then you can watch that from the comfort of your own home in your pajamas and the teachers don't have to work terrible hours

I also appreciate this format too. It is a pain for teachers and parents but it really gives a real sense of the kind of day my child has.

That is so not true. I have had 3 kids go thru MCPS and my youngest is a junior. I received one syllabus this year, none the first two years.

Covid back to school were so much better on zoom

+1. They are not emailing to parents but posting it to the front page of Canvas. Just like previously they used to handout a printed copy to the students not parents.

What? Are you a new Kindergartner parent? BTSN is MOBBED. The crowds are insane. Teachers taught a full day, have to stay late and have to get up early to teach the next day. It's exhausting. The last thing they want is carrying stuff or responding to private requests. DO NOT give them anything during BTSN. Just attend, and be as unobtrusive as poss.
