Vance vs Harris

Every time we help another country by donating munitions, a defense contractor gets their wings. Do you to reduce military spending or don't you?

Someone needs to gift this guy Dr. Carol Dweck’s book stat.

Anyone ruling from scarcity is dangerous. That rhetoric (there’s not enough for all of us) is straight out of the GOP playbook. That’s why only the elites shall benefit. It’s a Lord of the Flies mentality.

Just like Obama, who wasn't one step away and fundamentally transformed this country?

Do you have a hard time counting?

Obama was Senator for 3 years, a state senator for 7 years. He was the president of the Harvard Law Review, had 2 years experience as a community organizer, worked in the corporate world, taught constitutional law, and worked for a law firm. Plus he wrote two books.

That's a lot different from a one-book author who has served for 1.5 years in the Senate, no other governing or political experience.

Also Obama was 47. Still young but not nearly as green as Vance is.

A company? Do you mean Harper Collins?

He means Peter Thiel, who is Vance's owner.

Thiel is not a nice person. He is, in a word, vile.

She read Kamala so accurately the first time she provided a biting criticism as a retort . She said Kamalas laugh reveals low confidence, uncertainty . and discomfort and is used to soften her word salad and lack of ability to honestly communicate feelings and direction

JD is marine and a lawyer. He went to Yale law. He understands war.

Wasn't he in a journalist role?

Every United States Marine is an infantryman and rifleman, first and foremost, and everything else they do is secondary to that.

This. It is not the same as Lester Holt deploying with a military unit to cover a story. He was a Marine, he trained as a Marine and worked as a Marine.

He wrote for a military newspaper, not even Stars and Stripes.

Let's hope Vance is not swift-boated the way John Kerry was. My feeling is, no matter what role a soldier serves in, when they volunteer for the military they deserve respect. My dad was a WWII vet (marine) who mostly served in a non-combat role, but that does not mean he couldn't have been hurt or lost his life. I say this as a Dem.

So it is okay when the GOP "swift boats" a democrat, but god forbid a republican get swiftboated.

Wait, you think a GOP president is going to reduce the DOD budget?

Laughable.

PP here. Correct. For the GOP, military service is only valued when performed by a Republican. Just wait until Mayor Pete tries to run for something higher.

Thiel is Vance's Svengali. He is gay and married his partner and considering the MAGA evangelical base and their hatred of gays as well as Vance's right wing religious views, it is a interesting choice for Trump to say the least.

Is the movie any good? I’ve neither watched it or read the book

The movie is bad the book is good. He comes from a long line of trash. He was lucky enough to be born with extremely high intelligence, an outlier in his community and he escaped. He obviously doesn’t give genetic gifts any credit. He has really turned into a nutbag. His extreme views do not match the majority of Americans.

JD Vance's only successful bills so far are those resolutions that honor a person or group.

That is "helping the little guy"

(not)

I worked at a finreg with someone whose father had been a payday lender who operated next to an army base. After his father died, my colleague cleaned out his small office and found hundreds of thank you letters from grateful soldiers for being there with cash when they most needed it.

It is another perspective, one that should not be dismissed even as we are appalled by the APRs.

The sad part is that hundreds of soldier needed cash. They don't get paid enough.

Obama missed almost half of Senate voting.
As for "community organizer", that pathetic joke writes itself.

From Feb 2023 to Jul 2024, Vance missed 39 of 554 roll call votes, which is 7.0%. This is much worse than the median of 2.9% among the lifetime records of senators currently serving.
