Americans, does it bother you when immigrants complain about America?

I asked them why are they still here if Germany is “superior in everything”.

This is what I find so strange. Germany is safe and prosperous. Why be here?

Do you really think that people only come here because they are desperate and poor?

Maybe they are researchers working for a university. Maybe they are senior management in a private company. Lots of reasons to be here.

Sure, I know lots of people like that. They don't complain about the same things.

We kicked the world's butt in innovation and productivity without "Saturday" school. Now are we committing educational suicide now due to equity concerns, yes, but that has nothing to do with Chinese education as a model.

Or the immigrants who come here and expect to fundamentally change the values, holidays or traditions here.

Finally, so many complaints from Americans about the U.S. are simply due to ignorance. I would love to have a Study Abroad experience for these people, so folks can understand racism, universal health care and many other topics around the world.

No, I don't believe that a VISA or a Green Card makes you just as American as people whose ancestors paid the price to develop the country. A nation is not just land.

let me guess...you're a white male and a Trumper?

Let me guess, you're a pukegressive idiot?

It's hilarious that you'd call me an idiot while displaying such profound ignorance yourself. It tracks for your ilk though.

What's sad, not hilarious, is you haven't a clue what damage the open border crisis is currently causing our country especially our children's future.
We have huge Increases in fentanyl smuggling, human trafficking, illegals exploiting our tax paid resources, additional crime, huge increases in MS13 gang activities, etc.because of your ilk.
You are profoundly clueless.

And here we go.......the true feelings about immigrants come out. Keep that verbal vomit going.

I do find it frustrating. Especially when they somehow believe that everyone in America does things the same way, like in the more homogenous country they come from. Any statement that begins with “why do all Americans…” is going to be completely flawed in a country as giant and diverse as ours. Yes, there is a lot of junk food in America. And yet, there are also tons of Whole Foods and vegans. And tons of bodegas, and farmers markets, and food trucks. We contain multitudes.

Also, if you have citizenship here, guess what: you are now one of the Americans you complain about.

I'm not referring to legal immigration, which is a cornerstone of our country, but you are too dense to understand that.

Yes, I sometimes do OP. But, it sounds like your husband is being mean to you. A spouse shouldn't use immigration status vs. the other.

No, it is obviously not a racist stance, but you always want to throw out that word as a knee jerk reaction to the facts I have stated. It doesn't work.
And I agree. People who are naturalized citizens have every right to complain and hopefully we can/ will work together to make what they are complaining about, if it reasonably makes sense, better.

Oh really?

Is that why you said

"Or the immigrants who come here and expect to fundamentally change the values, holidays or traditions here." Which traditions are those? English, Polish, Italian, Irish, Chinese? All of those have been here for a very long time so which one specifically would you want to proclaim as the "official American tradition"

"No, I don't believe that a VISA or a Green Card makes you just as American as people whose ancestors paid the price to develop the country. A nation is not just land." Considering slaves built of a lot of this country and your ancestors had little to do with it, I consider your stance to be highly ignorant. Also, please don't shy away from this comment now by claiming that "legal immigration is clearly fine." Based on this comment alone you clearly don't think so, so own it.

No. Why would it?

Also: America is a continent (or two continents, depending on continent was defined in your geography class). The United States is the country OP refers to, I assume.

I believe there are varying degrees to consider for that statement, again I did not write, but I will address.
If the Taliban migrated here and wanted to establish sharia law, would you be for it?
Even if enough Taliban extremists voted for it in their community?
What if Hamas wanted to come here?
Those are extreme examples, but the melting pot that is the US was never intended to allow immigration that fundamentally changes the United States.

Why do you think they shouldn't prevail if they were the majority and were voted in democratically? Isn't that what our Constitution provides for?

So you equate immigrants with differing cultures with terrorists. Got it.

How about if Indian Hindus became a majority? Are they allowed to change the culture?
