You are 100% correct.

I feel SO bad for these dogs and hope for a ban on dogs for food. I don't know what to say, we keep shipping in dogs from other states and countries and there are not enough homes for them here! Our local "rescues" can't find foster homes, they beg and plead for someone to take in "new dogs that just arrived from North Carolina". This woman on our neighborhood facebook page needed to rehome a dog she had inherited due to valid reasons. NONE of the local rescues returned her calls or emails and then some would not help her. Said rescues were basically shamed into helping her and only did so by listing her dog on their site. (She finally found a home for her dog) Yet, these same rescues then go and get dogs from other states!? They are "non profits" that end up selling the dogs for $$, they get the tax benefits of running a non profit in their homes and get to write off their acreage and yet don't help the dogs in their own towns. I feel so let down by rescues now and see them for what they really are, money making ventures. I suppose they are the smart ones, they found a loop hole!

If you think rescues make money why don't you prove it? Do you think dogs should be given away? Dogs are expensive and if get something you know it isn't valued.

Does $800 an up for a dog sound like a reasonable amount for a rescue to charge? That is not an adoption fee. That is flat out selling.

That's how much a breeder can charge. It makes no sense given they are non-profits and get donations, tax breaks, grants and more. The goal is to have a home for the dog so give them for free given the recuses get them for free.

That is how much breeders charge. So when I’m looking to get a dog, I think do I pay $800 for a puppy from a breeder where I will be getting a puppy with whatever breed characteristics I want. Or, am I going to pay $800 for a rescue and take a gamble on issues? I’m going to pay the breeder $800. But, I would more likely be willing to get a rescue if it wasn’t the same price as a breeder. I don’t think they should be free. I’m aware there are expenses, but many of these rescues have gone overboard. and that is where they’re making their money. Tax benefits, and who knows how much they make us each dog.

I agree with this. At least being eaten is a purposeful death.

How are these dogs being allowed to fly over? When I moved overseas for work and wanted to bring my (completely healthy, up to date shots) dog, it was almost impossible. But we're letting random dogs just fly over?

Dog meat is extremely unhealthy for people. Wanna get rabies? https://www.onegreenplanet.org/animalsandnature/major-human-health-concerns-associated-with-the-dog-meat-trade/

Dogs have been considered our companions for thousands of years. Dogs are literally tortured to death and you call it a "purposeful death?'

Here is a video of dogs being blow torched alive in China
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/yulin-dog-meat-festival-video-china-blow-torch-animal-cruelty-a8969361.html

If you don't have any interest in this topic and don't want to help fine. But, dogs have been coming from around the world for ages and no one ever critizes that! My neighbors got dogs from Bosnia!

Anyone who is indifferent to this practice of eating dogs or cats are inhumane.

Eating an animal is not inhumane. How you treat that animal to be eaten is what is inhumane, but that could be said of torturing cows and pigs, too.

Eating dogs is inhumane. Did you watch the video? We could improve our treatment of other animals. How is blow torching or shocking a dog going to help a cow and pig. Both are wrong! You don't solve one problem by creating another

Thank goodness this practice in South Korea has been banned.

There are enough dogs being euthanized in the US that this is not ok. If you care about animals you'd be a vegetarian and feed your dogs and animals a vegetarian diet. It's silly to argue value in one animal over another.

This seems completely shady. They have people checking in the dogs as their own and handing them over to the rescues to resell.

If this were legal, the rescues would bring the dogs over themselves directly.

First of all, dogs need to eat meat to be healthy. My dog is not going to be vegetarian.

Second, you seem to think dog meat and other meat ( chicken, cow, etc) are all the same. They are not. Dog meat is quite unhealthy for human consumption. I will post my information again : https://www.onegreenplanet.org/animalsandnature/major-human-health-concerns-associated-with-the-dog-meat-trade/

Third you can help dogs in this country AND also around the world. It's like sending money after an Earthquake in California and Italy. We send help to those we can. To me eating dogs who have been our companions is unethical and inhumane. I do wish we killed cows, pigs etc more humanely.

And what do you mean shady? You said yourself that rescues here have their hands full. If you don't care about these dogs why do you feel the need to comment? Why do you care if other people are rescuing dogs?

Lots of things are unhealthy, but people still eat them. Meat is meat in terms of consumption.

I help people not dogs. My dogs are very well cared for. Why don't you do more to help those dogs here already on the list to be euthanized? Why aren't their lives equally worthy?

Then why are you on this thread? I'm not telling you what to do with your time or money. Why do you care what others do?

How do you know I don't help dogs here? I do! And I help people.

Forgot to add I know quite a few people who bought their purebred dogs only to find that they too have " issues" just like mutts.

And majority of fees for dogs I 've seen are $450 or below. Senior dogs are less and puppies are more.

You are harming animals to eat meat and feed your pets meat. What is the difference from you giving your dog multiple chickens a week? Why not focus on the dogs here who need homes? Why is the organization back door brining in these dogs as people pretending they are pets when they just hand them over to be sold?

Yes! Call me a hypocrite! I value the life of a dog over that of a chicken. I proudly wear my hyporite badge.

We are all hypocrites in that we judge each other all the time! We tell other countries not to circumsize their girls or you should educate them. Isn't that telling someone else's culture what to do? So you are one too unless you don't believe that we should educate girls in Afganistan or Iran. Or that girl circumsion is a 'cultural choice'

South Korea just banned the dog meat trade. Young people do not eat dog. So if that is their culture now why are you forcing them to go back to their old ways?

In the wild animals eat other animals. If lions and such didn't we would have an overpopulation of prey animals. How would that affect the environment? Are you going to stop a lion from eating a deer? How would you do so? I believe in eating chickens. Isn't it my right to feed mysel and my dog chickens? Aren't you the hypocrite too for taking away my culture?

Save the chickens if you want. But if you can not tell others whom they can save or not.

Let's face it you wouldn't adopt from a shelter. Which is fine. But, did you know that some months shelters will waive the fees of the pets? People do not work here to make money. Stop the lies.

Shelters are not rescues.

Tax breaks = making money.

They are doing good so why shouldn't they get tax breaks. Do you believe churches also get tax breaks?

We can do both. It’s not one or the other.

No, we cannot as if we were the shelters here would not be full.

The shelters here are not full of adorable dogs. The decent dogs go almost immediately. What’s left are nasty pits or relderly dogs with expensive medical conditions. We really don’t have a problem with great adoptable dogs languishing in shelters.

Thanks for the heads up, OP. I sometimes fly from Seoul to the US and would happily care for a dog during my trip. It isn’t harming the environment if it is a trip you are making anyway so the discussion of that seems pointless.
