So what? Did your adult child run home to tattle? Like, do they want you to DO something? Or were they just sharing a funny story? Welcome to the real world, where people are allowed to have opinions. |
Oh I suppose next you’re going to tell me that anyone who likes Jordan Peterson is a douche?! |
Lots of people on this thread telling on themselves. |
I think Ricky Gervais said it best,
“How arrogant are you to think that you deserve to go through life with no one ever saying anything that you don't agree with or like?” |
He’s also a garbage parent to his children from multiple women. |
Exactly. Just like the opinionated pukegressive professor. |
Imagine if they said Soros. There would be petitions. |
Professor speaks the truth. |
Elon Musk IS a douche. He might even say that about himself. If he's not a douche, then who is?! It's not exactly a controversial opinion. |
Is it possible to be an Asperger's weirdo, a genius, and a douche all at the same time? |
Learning a lot from this thread.
Ever shrinking population of folks that understand what college is about, interacting with people from diverse backgrounds, developing critical thinking skills and becoming your own person. Ever growing population who are triggered by the slightest micro aggressive who need a safe space to retreat to so they can recover from exposure to diverse thought. Society is at a tipping point and I am not sure which way it will go, but I am not hopeful it will end well. |
A truer statement has never been made on dcum. |
This is what I hope my college kid’s would takeaway. And of she knew the professor well and disagreed, I would even hope she might engage them in class (if a small seminar) or office hours (she at a small school with close student professor relationship) if she felt it was appropriate. And I would hope the biggest takeaway would be to ask herself why both her professor, who dislikes Musk, and Musk recommend this book. Because that seems like a book worth checking out. But, my kid has common sense, a strong sense of who they are and the ability to push back on things she things are wrong. So, I’m not sure what the harm of the comment would be. Even if the professor called one of my hero’s, like RBG, a douce. My kid can handle hearing different opinions from her own. In fact, I hope she does. College is where she discovers who she is. Which ai hope is not just a carbon copy of me. The world is a big diverse place and she can’t live in a bubble forever. OP seems to be on the verge of calling the Dean or something. Which is ridiculous. Don’t sent your kid to a college beside Liberty if you aren’t willing to have exposed to ideas they (and you disagree with). Never hurt to consider the idea before accepting or discarding it. Mom getting involved is so far over the line, I can’t even. Also— at many universities, professors pay their own salaries through their grants. Nice try though. |
Nah. At least not from this liberal. Freedom of speech matters to me a lot. You get to have your opinion. And I get to ignore it if I disagree. |
Absolutely. My father definitely hits all three categories, for example. He’s also a libertarian when it’s convenient, like Musk. |
