I was surprised. she's in her late 50s and playing someone who is likely much younger, at least 10 years judging by the age of her kids. I kind of appreciate that for once the woman isn't married to someone who is 20 years older than her in real life.

My question-what parts to I skip if I find child death/disappearance hard?

last part of second episode. They go to the market.

I don't like when every character knows key facts I don't know. Why? You don't have the hit me over the head with it but could you just tell me the central premise of the show in the first episode?

I don't care about the Kidman age/face issue anymore because she makes a lot of limited series like this and I've just accepted this is what she's doing and this is what she looks like while doing it. This is like the 5th show like this I've watched her in. It's fine. I actually think it is kind of similar to us all collectively pretending Tom Cruise isn't also super old. They've probably had similar amounts of work done and likely work equally hard at looking as well preserved as possible.

Sure.

But wouldn’t you think it’s weird if Tom Cruise played the father of a 4 year old?

No, not as long as the mother was younger than 42, because men can literally do that.

I have only watched the first two episodes but have read in reviews that there is a later episode that focuses on the lives of the two "helpers" who work for Margaret and Hilary, who are both Filipino (and thus also expats) and that's the episode that brought a lot of reviewers around on the show.

I've also read that people think that episode was written and filmed in part because of criticism the show received when it started filming in Hong Kong, because the government gave them special permission to relax Covid protocols for filming and there was anger at what was seen as special rules for rich Americans that put the workers around them at risk.

But also, the show runner is Lulu Wang, who made The Farewell with Akwafina, so I'm inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt. I do assume she had some constraints in making the show, both due to Amazon oversight and because Nicole Kidman is an executive producer and probably had more creative control than would be typical of the lead actor in a show like this.

I think I dont notice Nicole Kidman as much after 9 perfect strangers. I must have gotten used to her face, but I remember being a bit shocked watching 9PS.

Are new episodes released weekly? What day?

Thursdays I think. I watched ep3 yesterday

All of ep3 was about the kid. So if you can't handle the child death/disappearance you should probably skip the entire show.

thanks. I am an expat and it all feels eerily familiar, but I can't deal with the kid part. Too bad.

I watched it for about 25 seconds and gave up.

Here I was thinking it was only three eps long and I watched the last one yesterday... apparently it's six! I'm glad there are 3 more.

I can’t fathom how anyone would throw themselves a huge gala, less than a year after their child disappeared. That entire scene was just completely unbelievable.

I’m confused as to why Christopher’s apartment is still completely untouched, one year after he died? The timeline is confusing to me.

Mom who lost a child. You don't act rationally. That's the whole point. The entire first year after child loss is a trip to Crazy Town.

I thought he died just recently - around the time of the gala.

What are you talking about? Don't click on a thread if you haven't seen the show yet. Obviously, we're going to be discussing it.
