Leonardo DiCaprio was a fantastic actor when he was young, but since a few years after titanic he seems the same in every role. I think his role in ‘catch me if you can’ may have been the last time I thought he disappeared into his role. I did not see the film he won an Oscar for though so maybe I’m wrong.

I also think Denzel Washington overacts and is the same in every role.

Leave Buffy’s husband alone I think he had his niche for a while in teeny bop movies. I think the two of them got married, had kids…and he settled into a domestic life.

I get the feeling that Leonardo DiCaprio plays himself 90% of the time, but this came through most clearly in The Wolf of Wall Street.

But Denzel Washington is a good actor in my book.

Freddie Prinze Jr only has value because he was super cute in the 90s and my crush. So yeah, without his very pretty face, I don't know if I'd have watched any of his movies.

Julia Roberts is another one who appears to be herself onscreen. A lot of overexposed A list actresses are the same. Think: Jen Aniston.

Came here to say Keanu

Yeah but I like him as a person. There are some untalented actors who are good people, and IMO Keanu Reeves is one of them.

Tobey Maguire. It is baffling that this man became famous.

NP. I agree. I love Keanu as a person, but he really can't act. I guess his personality makes up for his lack of acting talent, at least for me.

Julia Roberts, Jen Aniston, and Natalie Portman all have pretty limited ranges. In a number of movies I've seen with them, they just play themselves.

I know she’s “retired” but I never found Cameron Diaz’s acting impressive.

I don’t know if it’s bad acting, or mannerisms, or too many procedures, but I just don’t think Nicole Kidman is ever effectively disappearing into a character.

Yeah, he is an odd one. He was good as Spider-Man in at least the first of his movies.

Has he been in much in the last 15 or so years?

I have a couple of likely unpopular ones:

Jerry Seinfeld (loved the show but be can’t deliver a line without laughing or smirking)

Al Pacino (some of his early work was fine. I feel like his later work is just a caricature of Al Pacino)

Anonymous wrote:Emma Watson as in Hermione? She has no looks to speak of, not a nepo baby afaik, and started too young to have traded favors. There must be some other factor

The factor surely is people's pure nostalgia for her role as Hermione. That's about all she's done that's made a ripple. I honestly don't know what she does for a living, because if she's acting you don't hear about it. I'm not dissing her as a person but she just seems not to work, or if she's working, it's not on anyone's radar. (Now a Watson stan will come along to cite her many post-Potter roles, I guess?, but, come on, how is she relevant to acting now?) Polar opposite: Daniel Radcliffe, who seems to work constantly and moves between theater, TV and films, in roles extremely different from each other. I would call her a minor celebrity; I would call him a working actor.

DP. This is a good distinction: working actor vs celebrity/socialite. I don't see Emma Watson as an actress either, personally; she seems like a navel-gazing rich girl who seems to be trying to upp her profile with performative virtue-signalling, but never actually does anything. And I agree, she's never done a good performance. In my opinion anyway.

It's a shame the Luna Lovegood actress Evanna Lynch never made it big after Harry Potter, because that girl can actually act well.

Kristen Stewart. That brat like too cool for school in every role.

Leonardo do Caprio. He always seems like he’s shouting his lines. OK WHAT SHOULD WE DO NOW?
And Edris Alba always stamping his feet and shouting.

Yeah, how exactly did this dude become famous?

Probably started with that Academy Award he and Matt Damon won for best screenplay for "Good Will Hunting."

Be nice - poor guy has a pretty serious condition right now. He’s quite good in the roles he was given. My personal fave is The Whole Nine Yards with Matthew Perry, Amanda Peet and Michael Clarke Duncan. Honorable mention for his guest role on Friends.

He was also great all those years ago in "Moonlighting."
