I am pro-legalizationn (or at least decriminalization) but that doesn't mean I am in favor of the lack of regulation that is going on now. We don't have to go back to the days of locking people up, taking away their right to vote, making it almost impossible for them to get a job, etc. to tackle the problems we have with pot.

Please provide evidence of the lack of regulation in the marijuana industry.

In fact, states that have decriminalized marijuana have done so under highly regulated schemes.

There is a black market for marijuana, as there always was. There is a black market for booze and ciggies and all other kinds of drugs, too. Criminality will always be with us. It's in the streets from the hood to Wall St.

And there have always been fools who bought ciggies and booze for kids and now there are fools who buy legal marijuana for kids. Idiots will always be with us.

The decriminalization of marijuana did not make the sky fall, no matter how much the reefer madness propagandists want to make it so.

I saw this story on the WSJ's Facebook page, and was alarmed by the comments.

The overall message was: Too bad ... teens/young adults are facing a sick society and an impossible economy, so we're just going to keep smoking weed.

Such a victim mentality ... I think people are really convincing themselves weed is the way to go. Is it just we middle-aged parents who see these horrible effects on kids and think this is all wrong?

It is uniquely bad for teens to have access to vapes, cigarettes, alcohol, marijuana, opioids, psychedelics, etc. - developing brains don't need to be altered by any such substances.

Speak for yourself, there are millions of middle aged parents who are pro-legalization.

Maybe you should talk to some of the millions of parents whose kids lives were ruined by getting popped for marijuana possession and never for the rest of their lives being eligible for federal financial aid among a myriad of other consequences?

At a minimum, I wish the schools would start cracking down on drug use at school. My kids say it’s rampant and they complain about the smell. It horrifies me that my teen could be getting weed from someone at school, smoking it there and no one from the school would even call me because the schools take zero action.
They should hire a shit ton of security officers. Make a broad announcement that this won’t be tolerated. Then take every kid found using weed at school and give them a choice between drug tests and locker/bag searches or the virtual academy.

I’m a liberal progressive Dem but it’s just become utterly ridiculous. I guess it was predictable but it’s like we told these teens that we trusted them to make the right choices and we weren’t going to penalize them for bad ones, and they decided that they can collectively walk all over us.
