From our Big 3: GPA 3.9 (UW) or higher were al accepted. 3.8-3.9 were waitlisted. 3.7-3.8 were mostly rejected with a couple of exceptions. SAT/ACT does not set to play a big role.

Posting this here in case someone wants this information for this year's admission cycle. Son was admitted to UVA OOS with a 4.0/4.5 with 11 AP courses (6 at time of application with all 5s), lots of volunteering with same org for 6 years with a leadership role + awards, varsity team captain 2 years, part time job, elite club soccer for 10 years, completed AP Spanish 5, and a few other misc awards. We are from California and even with these stats, he was rejected from UCLA and waitlisted at Cal. It's hard out there and very, very unpredictable. My take is UVA really seems to value what you do outside the classroom and how you communicate & bring those experiences to life in your essays.
Wishing this year's OOS applicants much luck!!

Wondering what the chances are for OOS kid with 4.0 uw, 10 APs/DE, 1550? Probably EA. Far away state.

Alaska? Hawaii? would be a geographical benefit. The day we toured the guide commented that the only state not covered by that year's incoming class was S. Dakota

It's interesting considering how UVA's acceptance rate is higher relative to other top schools. I wonder if it's ED distorting data

My kid attends UVA and is very happy. Congrats to your son!

I assume there is a huge difference in the OOS acceptance rate depending on which state? Presumably there are tons of applications from high stats kids from DC, MD, New Jersey, PA, CA, NY, PA, etc but fewer from states in the Deep South and Midwest (except maybe Illinois)?

My NC kid was accepted EA this year, 4.0uw 35act, lots of rigor, Jefferson semi-finalist. Didn't make sense financially without scholarship with UNC tuition, but chose an Ivy anyway as wanted a smaller school. The focus changed a bit as year progressed and was less interested in larger state schools.

^ Typo, 36 ACT. I would guess only one that applied at their high school.

NC is a great example of a state where it might be (relatively) easy to get in (compared to other states. Your kid is super deserving but I’m guessing there are far fewer applicants from states like Michigan and NC where the state flagships are top notch. Why pay more to go to UVA when the in-state option is as good/better?

Ouch. 70k tuition oos for UVA is not worth it; if not going in-state in Cali, at least go private and get a semblance of “value” for what you are paying for.
