How to stop eating when you work from home

Stop with your no snacking crazy talk. Humans were never intended to be hungry for more than 2 seconds. It’s extremely unnatural. If you allow this type of hunger to exist between set meals you will definitely die.

You are looney tunes for sure - what in the world are you talking about!

I haven’t lost a huge amount of weight, just a couple of pounds. but I know from reading Gin Stephens that we should not expect to lose a lot of weight in the first month. Also, I FEEL really healthy and great. I’ve got a 5-6 eating window most days and I do really eat a lot during that window, so there’s potential for
me to exercise more self control during my eating window and then I think I will see much more difference on the scale. However, right now, I am just happy that I feel so much better.

I’ve had one cheat day - the day after Halloween - when I drank the night before and felt the need to eat in the morning. I felt absolutely terrible being hung over and eating all day. Then I realized that I had been eating in that way for the past four years - an all day bonanza of eating for four years!! It’s going to take months for me to work this weight off. And the Gin Stephens book was so helpful for me in terms of managing my expectations - I don’t expect to see real results for another 3 months or so. And that’s only if I truly follow the regimen and don’t overeat too much during my eating window.

To the prior posters who shared the clean fast information with me, THANK YOU so much. It’s really not that hard to fast when I’m doing the clean fast. I’ll check in again in another month or so!!

That was me, and I am so happy for you! Keep it up!!!

Hi everyone, I am the OP of this thread and wanted to check in with you all on the intermittent fasting process. To recap,
I gained 15 pounds during COVID and in my early 40s. I was in an incredibly stressful time trying to manage work and three small kids doing virtual school and
I began a deeply embedded habit of snacking all day long and eating every time I stepped out of my home office.

After this thread, I started IF (doing a clean fast) in October 2023. I have lost 8 pounds and have another 8 pounds to go. I’m finding that it’s still hard to stay consistent with the IF and requires will power. I also still find myself wandering into the kitchen and snacking when stress spikes at work, but it’s a lot less than I was a year ago and I’m only snacking during my eating window.

The clean fast was the key for me, but it’s still taking a really long time for me to meet my goal. Of course, I’ve had plenty of “cheat days” when I’m on vacation or not feeling well and need to eat outside my usual fasting window. But I think the main reason I haven’t lost all the weight is that I struggle with remaining disciplined during my eating window and usually fill up way before dinner, but eat dinner anyway bc it’s family time. I wish I could be more disciplined and just have, for example, a bowl of lentil soup and a protein bar and then a wonderful balanced dinner. I’ve also got a sugar problem where I have a lot of sugar cravings during my eating window, so I wind up eating candy and sweets as snacks.

I’m still a work in progress, but heading on the right direction and not quitting. Thanks to everyone for your support! Advice always welcome!!

This!!! Same boat as you

Thanks for the update OP! Good work!

FWIW, I struggle similarly. I’m currently doing IF and keto, and even then I’m losing suuuper slowly. My problem is cheat days/meals, but I have a hard time cutting them out bc I associate them with the weekend and relaxing.

I was thinking of getting my mouth wired shut.

Drink more water. It has worked for me. When I find myself thinking about a snack, I get a glass of water and drink that first. Sometimes it turns out I wasn't hungry, just bored, and drinking the water satisfies my need to do something and consume something.

I'll also have small but more filling snacks and it keeps me from grazing all day. My favorite is crackers and cheese or an apple with peanut butter. Basically the kind of snack you'd give a kid who was complaining about being hungry but the next meal is hours away. Snacking on chips or nuts or cereal will not feel satisfying and you'll just keep doing it, but half an apple dipped in a few tablespoons of peanut butter will sate my hunger and I'll stop thinking about food.

Great job OP!!! You're doing it!
This is your last 8 pounds right here. I'm a sweet tooth too. Prep ahead! Strawberries or other berries dipped in dark chocolate, pop them in the fridge.
