Yes, the gun-nut idea is that an armed society is a polite society. Unfortunately, the reality is that an armed society is a society with a huge number of gun deaths. |
Most likely your own. https://www.kff.org/mental-health/issue-brief/do-states-with-easier-access-to-guns-have-more-suicide-deaths-by-firearm/ https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2020/06/handgun-ownership-associated-with-much-higher-suicide-risk.html |
Yes, someone taking appropriate measures to ensure their safety and life will do a 180 and commit suicide. Do you people (liberals) even take a moment to think about what you are saying? |
You think you're disagreeing with "you people (liberals)", but actually you're disagreeing with empirical reality. Facts don't care about your ideas about logic. |
I am a liberal and I'm fully in support of your right to concealed carry, as long as you're at the shooting range every week to develop and maintain your skill.
Think of this this way: by carrying a gun, you're tacitly acknowledging you may one day have to use it in public. So, best to practice frequently to make sure that if (God forbid) you have to use it, you will be able to draw, aim, and hit the bad guy in three seconds -- without accidentally hitting anyone else. A few years ago, in another big city, I spoke to the owner of a private shooting range. His most consistent clients? Local police officers. They apparently didn't get as much on-the-job practice as they felt they needed to be confident of their ability to react quickly with their sidearm. So, to any gun owner who's reading this thread: may I suggest you practice far more than you think you'd need to? If the cops feel the need for extra training every month, then perhaps you should be practicing every week. If you do practice every week, then honestly, I'll probably feel safer walking at night beside you than without you. But if you don't practice... I really hope I'm nowhere near when you feel the need to draw. |
I get your point , but too expensive every week. Monthly. |
What I find amusing is you anti gun people think you are in the majority. When Martin Owe-Malley (the flush tax, the rain tax, etc) passed a bunch of laws around 2010 banning most rifles that were not HBARS (stupid because HBARS are still just as good as regulars) and banned magazine that held over 10 rounds, people in MD bought out the inventory for almost every gun retailer in the state. Leading old Marty to lament that adding more guns to the amount already possessed by MD citizens was not the goal and he wished the law had a mechanism to go into effect right away not half a year after it was passed and MD citizens could arm up even further. I remember standing in line at a gun shop in Baltimore County that was 30 people deep just trying to get in and get something before they were sold out. |
We need a gun range in Dc for folks to practice. You currently have to head to the burbs. Why is that? |
There used to be a gun range at my HS in DC. Sadly its gone. Students used it, as did some FBI people who lived near by. I would guess the reason is zoning. Most ranges in MD that are near DC kind of suck. |
We actually are in the majority. There is a small proportion of people, which owns a large proportion of the guns. It's been very lucrative for the gun manufacturers. |
I would agree. DC likely doesnt have ranges over zoning. Pretty sure I know the HS range the above poster is referencing. Sad its gone but it must have been gone for quite some time, lol. Don't have a lot of experience with VA ranges. But MD ranges are a mixed bag. Further you go from DC,(Frederick & Washington County) the better they get. WV has some excellent ranges right over the border by Louden County if you don't mind the drive. My experience at WV ranges are the people who run them and work there are mostly active law enforcement and retired military who are very cool and helpful if you have any questions. |
"We actually are in the majority. There is a small proportion of people, which owns a large proportion of the guns. It's been very lucrative for the gun manufacturers."
Sorry, but as Ron Burgundy would say "I don't believe you" If you ever went to say Nations Gun show in Chantilly, you would see what I mean. When there is a booth at a gun show in VA that says "MD transfers" and its so crowded that people are waiting an hour just to set up their purchase transfer to a MD dealer, I would say you are not correct. |
Where do you live that people openly carry firearms? I would stop shopping and leave if I saw someone. (a cop or some sort of military I would not) How does that affect you and why are you so childish to name call? |
Do you people (gun nuts) ever take a moment to look at the statistics? People who own guns are far more likely to die by gunshot and/or kill someone they know. On the other hand, the number of gun nuts who have actually stopped a crime in progress can be counted on your hands. OP, you really think you're going to whip that thing out and kill some kid? You said in your original post that you would happily give up your wallet and car keys, yet you will be standing in front of a criminal with a hidden gun. Are you really planning to pull it out and shoot them? More likely, you will try to pull it out, they will knock you down, and -- you're another of the many, many, many gun owners killed by their own guns statistic. I'm sure your family will be consoled by the fact that at least you TRIED to kill someone. |
I would worry about being killed in the crossfire. Also a link to the story would be helpful |
