What do you want in a beach rental?

Anonymous
I have rented many houses in Bethany, and sheets/bath towels have never been included. I have always rented from Sheets at the Beach, etc.

Agree that a well-stocked kitchen with things like a decent knife set, pots large enough to cook corn on the cob, etc. is super important.

Opposite here, I will only book a rental if it is no pets allowed. Pet friendly rentals are never cleaned thoroughly enough to prevent DCs allergies.

The amount of people who have dogs v the amount of people allergic to dogs is very lopsided. I don’t think OP will miss your booking.

I also prefer rentals where pets aren’t allowed, but if they are I expect excellent cleaning in between guests.

"Pets allowed" are an automatic pass. A hard "no" for us. You never get rid of the hair and dander and dog smell and pee especially since beach houses have such a tight turnaround time with cleaning. Don't kid yourself that your house is clean after a dog has spent a week there.

This. Smells gross. No matter what. Pet owners are immune to this as its a constant.

+1

Maximum number of people AND no pets is essential.

I know that I love an airbnb with new-to-the-kids toys and all of the nice things mentioned here, but I also know that we have inadvertently taken things from hotels/airbnbs. And we are very honest people.

We had one situation where a photo/canvas of our daughter that was in the master on a wall went missing. We thought it was stolen, but had no idea which renter would have taken it. Then months later we found it under the sink in a different bathroom. Still have no idea why someone put it there.
We haven’t had anything stolen. Been renting since 2019.

Wow, the jokes really write themselves here. But I will refrain . . .

Bare minimum - salt, pepper, sugar, coffee filters that fit the machine (or gold filters), at least one dishwasher soap pod, dish soap, paper towels or kitchen towels, kleenex, hand soap in bathrooms.

Plus - ice machine!

Hopefully it wasn't a photo of her daughter when she was very young.

NP: absolutely no personal photos of the family/owners!

Another vote for very few knickknacks.

My relative has a family beach house with a large cork board in a kitchen closet that has all sorts of house and location specific info; takeout menus, Wi-Fi password, info on trash day, favorite barber, hairdresser, nail salon, etc.

Ewwww no
🤢
My kid was fully clothed, on the beach, with a huge ice cream in her hand, and ice cream on her chin. It was just a cute beach picture.

I have a no pets allowed policy and I am completely booked for summer by February.

You won't be missed.

PP, I’m curious as an STR owner. Do you have other features like a pool or ocean views that cause it to book so quickly?

North End VA beach properties are very quiet because you have 1st Landing state park to west and ocean to east.
Very little on-street parking means limited access to ocean especially at night unless you have a house there.
Its a very thin strip of houses north of 63rd street up to 80s streets.
Just ocean block to east and a block and 1/2 other side of Atlantic Ave.
My house is a few houses to cross over with a huge deck and 5 bedrooms, 3 have king size beds.
I usually book repeat tenants that mostly book "their week" for next year very early.

Unfortunately, there are some gross people out there.

I dislike knick knacks in airbnbs. I move them so they dont get broken by my kids but then they take up space wherever i move them, then im paranoid i didnt put them back in the right spot.

Same. Make your rental pet-free please.

Gross. Your rental should have zero personal pictures from your family. Use neutral beach themed artwork. Personal pictures are a NO.
