I lost my father to Fox News. No matter how much you'd try to steer the conversation away from politics, he wanted to regurgitate the most recent lies from Bill O'Reilly. |
Single woman here, I NEVER open my door. I open the window and tell the stranger - usually a solicitor who wants to repair my roof or replace my windows or some nonesense - to go away. Nicely. While the dogs go ap*sh!t. And I don't discourage the barking.
If a kid was on my doorstep I'd find out what he needs and make a call for him. I remember years ago my dad was in a car accident and a random neighbor in that area let me use her phone. God bless her. |
Good idea. http://forgottenvictims.com/Mary%20Nagle.htm Right behind my cousin’s home. |
Street smart approach for a single woman in the city. ![]() Dogs are just the best! |
What a POS. |
The USA is over. It's so sad. |
If anything good comes of this maybe some adult children will get scared their sad is going to end up indicted for shooting someone with their gun and take away his gun (or “borrow” it to go hunting and then forget to bring it back). Like taking the keys. My dad is not maga and is not at all suffering from dementia but did hand his guns down as a gift to sons and grandsons years ago. If any of you have an elderly parent with a gun, please go ask to borrow it for some invented purpose. Then you can conveniently forget to return it.
If we lived in a rational country, seniors might be required to have wellness checks to maintain firearm ownership. |
I don't answer the door because I generally don't wear a bra on at home. Sometimes not pants. I'm not afraid, but I'm not gonna put either of them on for a solicitor. |
Yes. In Georgetown, it is somewhat routine for people to come by unannounced to do background checks on neighbors/ former neighbors for high level gov't jobs. I have never had a Secret Service agent though ( usually just a contractor). And normally, they ring the doorbell...not pound on the door. |
I thought exactly the same. |
Afraid? I refuse to live in a house in America because of fear. All media and tv. I would be ok in a house in Europe. |
I'm so sorry. I sometimes worried about that with my mom, but think that Fox News could not overcome the FDR imprimatur on them. Such different times. |
This is absurd. I'm a single female homeowner. I don't answer the door because it's comfy time and I don't want to deal with things I'm not interested in. It has nothing to do with being afraid. |
Interesting. I thought it was more being a shit-scared MAGA freak with a gun. |
Bottom line: if the two shooters didn't have easily accessible guns, these shootings would not have occurred. There are a number of things you can do to protect yourself short of getting a gun. People in other countries seem to manage without them. Why can't we? |
