Very sad.

Who said he was unstable? Was that reported somewhere?

Christine was the nicest and most generous person I have ever met, and I am deeply sad and shocked with this tragedy.

Is that why he had a gun in the house?

yes, he would have a gun as part of his job

He worked for the IRS. A bean counter with a gun?

An IRS Special Agent does carry a gun.

Still struggling to understand what type of tax enforcement requires a gun

IRS Criminal Investigation. Drug runners, etc. are obligated to pay taxes on their ill-gotten gains... It's how the Feds got Al Capone.

Hold up now... so if a drug dealer pays his fair share of taxes, then all is good?

Well, they won't get in trouble for tax evasion. But they still can get prosecuted for the other crimes.

Al Capone says hello.

It’s really the dropped call from the Au pair & the other one not coming for 15 minutes that makes the whole thing very suspicious. Otherwise, I’d totally go for crazed ex / husband trying to protect his wife theory. But why did the first call drop & what happened during those 15 minutes?

Yep! I mean, I guess could have she tried to potentially call at first, but felt in danger, and they were trying to reason with the guy. Maybe?

How bout piss off. I don't post pics of my family on sm anywhere. You don't get to tell me that I have to be in pics or I have to post them. What a weird, screwed up society we are turning into. You think people don't exist and have normal lives if they don't participate in sm. That's so sick.

Maybe the guy went after the aupair first and the mother stepped in and got stabbed. Maybe the guy was stalking the aupair.

I also read somewhere, but can't find it now, so not sure of the validity, that the aupair referred to the alleged stabber as "my friend" when she called the police the 2nd time.

Could it be that the murdered male is the au pair’s boyfriend? Maybe he routinely sleeps over and therefore being there so early in the morning wouldn’t be unusual. Or perhaps the bf arrived to meet up with his gf.

That's a twist. Makes you think twice about au pairs.

It’s always weird when it’s only the children on cards, as if one of the parents is planning to divorce.

Ha. Our cards were almost always only our kids. We gave been married about 30 years, no plans to divorce.

+1 same here

For this particular family, they are both on social media but don't have pictures of each other. They have a young child. Plus their card only has pics of the child. Its not the norm in similar young families.

I completely agree (same age as the people involved). Both of their FB page screams a couple on the rocks. No photos of each other... Usually couples this age would have either that or some professional family photos.

Maybe their marriage was rocky, but using social media posts to determine that is a stretch. I’m happily married with young kids and never post pictures of my spouse (and the kids only rarely). Just because you use social media that way doesn’t mean everyone does. My experience is actually more the opposite — whenever I see a lot of loved up posts from someone with or about their spouse, they are overcompensating for an affair or other trouble.

It’s possible but not likely for at least two reasons (1) the guy was 39, most APs date guys their age and (2) most host families do not let boyfriends (especially 39 year old ones!) sleep over, given the young children in the house. Typically APs sleep at their boyfriends’ homes and come back to the host family for their shift.

The au pair was young, doubtful she was in a relationship with this guy, but maybe he wanted to be. Also agree this family likely wouldn't let a guy sleep over- given he's got high clearance/IRS special agent and she was a pediatric nurse at INOVA.

Just keep paying your fair share and everything will be fine.

I am still struggling to understand why you seem so worried about the reason why this man had a weapon. I will clarify for you. It’s because this is America. The country that glorifies guns and romantizes the violence brought by them.

That theory sounded familiar and it turns out something like that already happened in NJ: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/05/nyregion/maplewood-murder-david-kimowitz-nanny.html
