I want my thread removed after your write up

I just love how the OP can't do anything but huff and puff and rant about doxxing. She can't even dramatically delete her account and flounce off because it's an anonymous forum. Just too, too good.

I also think the summaries are often inaccurate and/or designed to rake up more controversy. As one small example, in the summary the other day of the MCPS bathroom policy change, he stated "Other posters are not convinced that armed police officers raiding school bathrooms is the solution." But that's not really what anyone suggested, and it's a pretty belittling way to frame the discussion (which is complicated and doesn't really have easy solutions). People are already inclined to over-simplify and disparage viewpoints -- do we really need these summaries to further inflame the situation?

I don't know if Jeff is doing this because he's bored, or to drive more clicks to the website, but I'm not a fan.

Just my two cents.

Yeah, he summarized one thread that I was active on once, on a topic that is very raw for me, and described me in an unkind way. Maybe I am being too sensitive, but it hurt my feelings and made me feel bad about being on DCUM.

I enjoy the summaries, but Jeff seems to find so many of the threads inane or annoying that I sometimes wonder why he bothers to host this website!

Because it makes him money, obviously. Generally the more annoying the more money they make him.

This is essentially true. IF a forum only had reasonable discourse, it would be boring, no one would frequent it, and ad revenues can go bye bye.

As for the OP, I actually considered posting on that thread, with what I thought would be reasonable advice/information. Glad to have not bothered.

I'm sorry that you are upset but I don't think my summary of the thread was mean-spirited in any way. I was certainly not bullying you.

I don't like your thread summaries either, Jeff. It definitely seems like you are taking sides in a kind of distinct way, and I'm not sure what the point is of that. It's like your attitude is, "Anyone can post here because the clicks give me $$, but I can sit here and judge them."

+1

Generally, they are entertaining, even if they are off-base occasionally.

How much can one really make off this? Seems like a lot of trouble for not much reward…

We make a comfortable living. I find it strange that posters are apparently bothered that we actually earn money from the website. I assume that they refuse compensation from their jobs?

Running the site is a lot of trouble and can be very tedious. That's why, when I have the opportunity, I try to make things a little fun. I'm sorry if that occasionally tweaks someone's feelings.

I honestly find it amusing, especially when he talks about threads in which I have posted (Harry/Meghan cough cough) because it reminds me to mind my manners.

And really, don't post on the internet if you don't want to be called out.

Jeff isn't doing this as a public service, this is a gig for him. Take it or leave it.

I think you are very nice and diplomatic in your summaries. I wouldn't be able to hold my tongue as well.

Who is upset about you earning money? I was frankly concerned that it wasn’t sufficiently remunerative given the amount of effort it takes to deal with querulous miscreants like us. Glad to hear it is.
