Should say winners by state |
The number of semifinalists increased significantly and the number of TJ semifinalists decreased, with a larger graduating class. |

"New Jersey set the standard this year with a 223 cutoff. The cutoffs for the District of Columbia and U.S. Students Studying Abroad are set at the highest state mark, so they are also at 223."
https://www.compassprep.com/national-merit-semifinalist-cutoffs/ Can someone explain why District of Columbia is set at the highest state mark each year? |
| Has Churchill announced its semi finalists? I saw the lists from BCC, Wootton, RM, Walt Whitman. |
When FCPS started sending AAP kids from the Langley pyramid back to Cooper MS, a lot of academically focused families moved into the McLean pyramid so their kids could attend Longfellow MS, which historically was one of the top feeders to TJHSST. But, of course, not all those kids get into TJ. For the past two years, McLean has had more NMSFs than Langley, a wealthier school. |
Probably because of all the wealthy private/independent school kids studying for the test. Plus, BASIS and Banneker. It's a barbell distribution in DC. |
I have no dog in this fight, but I believe McLean has like 600 more students that Langley |
| how many students from DC made the cut off? |
It doesn't have "like 600 more students." It has roughly 20% more seniors and 60% more NMSFs this year. |
| Bumping - anyone have the list from DC? |
10 from Chantilly |
| What about Oakton |
|
So top dogs are
1) TJ 2) McLean 3)Richard Montgomery |
Yes |

National Merit is a big accomplishemnt.
Kudos to schools like USC that significantly recognizing it. |
