Do you hang your diplomas? At the office? Home?

Totally agree PP. A friend lost his during a move and let's just say Tgiving dinner was a bit uncomfortable. If your degree isn't important to you, it may very well be important to your parents or future generations.

BTW 13:30 - My degree is displayed in my office because I like it. I own a nice purse because I like nice purses I drive a nice car because I like nice cars. Newsflash, people may actually do things because they are secure and happy with their choices. Sheesh.

Diplomas on the wall are par for the course at my law firm (biglaw), although we almost never have clients in our actual offices. For all of the reasons stated by above "PPs, I have mine up. One is from a good school and the other is from an Ivy, although many of the other attorneys at my firm have more impressive credentials than I do. I worked my ass off to achieve what I've achieved and I see no problem putting it out there. "

Oh, brother!

"Consider yourself lucky. You had the means to take the time to go to school and pay for it (or take out loans). Some people don't. Does that make you better? Personally, I recognize that it mostly just makes your fortunate to be in the situation that you are in.

Your sense of self-worth shouldn't come from a piece of paper hanging on the wall, or the car you drive, or the purse you carry. .."

So much judgment and mean-spirited assumptions here.

I just graduated law school and took the bar. It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I'm going to proudly hang my J.D. and my law license in my office, just as most other lawyers do. If nothing else, people are interested in where you went, and it can create an instant and valuable connection to another alum, even if they went to the same school as an undergrad.

Plus, I am proud of it and it's my own office, so mind your own business and quit being so damned judgmental!

No. They're unattractive, and I'm all about the aesthetics.

LOL!

My dad spent a lot of money to frame my college diploma really nicely, so it used to hang in my home office. Right now I don't have a home office (sacrificed it to have a guest room and a nursery) so I might hang it in my room, along with my business school diploma if I ever get around to having THAT framed. I worked my ass off to get those degrees; I like seeing the diplomas sometimes.

To 13:42 why is that funny?

What have you done that's so hard?

""I just graduated law school and took the bar. It was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life."

LOL!"

I'm sure 13:32 is laughing because she just got back from her fourth Africa aid trip, after her 5th tour of duty in Iraq, and is working on building capital to start her 6th company... That "LOL" clearly indicates a hard-working, accomplished individual!

Oh, I get it.

Her accomplishments give her the right to make fun of other people's accomplishments... What a bitch!

yes, really 13:42, what's so funny about that? Does it honestly make you feel better to ridicule someone for actually earning something and being proud of it?

Anonymous wrote:We have our hanging in our home office. Got them all very nicely framed. All very simple, but with some coordinated matting. I have an actual motive behind displaying the diplomas and that is that I want to demonstrate to my children that education is important to our family. The home office isn't a super-public area of my home, so I don't feel like we're bragging, but we're very proud of the achievements and want to share that with our family. Our children's sports trophies and certificates from school also get displayed in the den (not necessarily framed, but on display).

I also had each child's birth announcement framed in a similar look. Just so they could have a "starter piece" up on the wall with us.

I don't have any of mine framed (they are all in a file cabinet somewhere) but would do it for exactly this reason.

In the words of the Isley Brothers: "It's your thang, do what you wanna do."

If your office culture/tradition supports hanging diplomas at work, do it. If not, don't do it and consider hanging at home.

One is graduated from an educational institution because a degree is conferred upon you. If I heard a lawyer or any other professional tell me "I graduated " I would take my business elsewhere. Did you mean to say where "you went to school, college" or is someone interested if you went to the bathroom or an all night taco stand?

I am going to hang my degree from strayer university.

It was an online course but I am damn proud of it. I'll put it in a sparkle frame with colorful lights so everybody can see it.

Dude, seriously? If I heard a lawyer or any other professional say something like this, I would take my business elsewhere. Lighten up.
