Please. Taylor Swift has zero reason to be closeted. If she was gay, she would not feel any shame or pressure from Hollywood. Totally ridiculous. It’s 2021.

This is demonstrably false. Her fan base is not the kind of demographic that WOULD NOT care about her sexuality. To the contrary, much of her fame—pre-country music and post country music —, is built around this image of a frail, hyper emotional, delicate, fragile , skinny, blonde ingenue who is perpetually wronged through no fault of her own by men—usually former paramours—and women , depicted as most likely jealous of her.

+1. Taylor’s public persona is hyper straight. If she is gay (I doubt it), her coming out would be celebrated by the media for about a week but her fan base would abandon her instantly.

Lots of gay men in the Taylor Swift fan base.

Lots of gay men is debatable . I seriously doubt that , if a market research was conducted on who Taylor swift fans are, that your ' lots of gay men in the swift fan base' will stand , as opposed to say, predominantly young heterosexual white women from right leaning households .

Wow I just feel this is so off. Conservatives don’t love Taylor Swift. She is 100% beloved by many young gay men. Anyway, I doubt many people would stop listening to her because of her sexuality, and even if they did, do you really think she’d care? I think you are underestimating her. Why would she pretend to be heterosexual?

Agree. These PPs acting like Taylor Swift is the same as Carrie Underwood. They are not.

Both of you pps are living in a bubble . Saying that conservatives don't love Taylor Swift is remarkably ignorant and betrays a thorough knowledge of Swift's career trajectory. Up until Donald Trump, she had the particularity of having carved a unique lane—that of being the go-to singer for the teens, tweens, and young white women in the south and middle America.

Her success is owed in part to presenting herself as prim, proper and safe for the aforementioned demographics. As such , at the height of her career , you couldn't find her making any statement that even remotely sounded political . Hence, swift , unlike some of her peers never lent her star power to things like : support for gay marriage or outright campaigning for Obama à la Katy perry . It wasnt until white supremacists tried to claim her as of their own ( thanks in no small part to her white darling image ) that she initiated what can aptly be called as a split , albeit a forceful one, with those who thought she was their cultural standard bearer *wink*

She denounced white supremacy, Trump, and called for people in Tennessee to not vote for Marsha Blackburn. Anyone who followed her career knows this was a tectonic shift . Carrie Underwood has never been anywhere near swift as far as fame goes. I say this as someone who isn't a fan of either one of them. I couldn't care less about her ssxuality, but to pretend that a huge chunk of the demographics that made her rich and famous won't care is to be wrapped in some pathetic bubble that can't burst soon enough. Dcum, Logan circle or Adam's Morgan are representative of a statistically insignificant part of America —culturally and demographically.

Yes, conservatives supported the first part of her career, but your logic is strained. Conservatives felt betrayed by her political statements, and by several recent songs promoting homosexuality. If you don't think those have already shifted her fan base, you are clueless. The fact that Blackburn still won should tell you something...

She just put out two fabulous albums of music - she’s been on fire creatively but has been very private about her personal life and relationship. I dob’t imagine she’s making any kind of hidden statement about Karlie Kloss.

Taylor Swift's creativity is built on backstabbing albums and swiftboating past boyfriends. Its no secret. It works for her. Just like Adele singing about her own love life works for her.

So yeah, easy to see this is about Karlie Kloss. Especially after Kloss didn't invite Taylor to either of her weddings after they lived together for years...in addition to the romantic pictures.

NP. Neither of her last two albums (not counting the Fearless rerelease) have had any of that. Lover didn't have much either.

Oh yay - 2 out of 10 weren't backstabbing nutso ex-girlfriend anthems. Lovely. As soon as she's done with Joe she'll be singing about how she hates the rain and Londontown and boys with blond hair who aren't wealthy enough for her.

Oop. She went back to trashing exs. Including a new video this time. Anything else to say PP?

^^ cute but you know she’s literally re recording every album so it’s “hers”. So she’s not redoing it for any other reason. With that in mind, creating a film to match a song on an album that’s new doesn’t seem that far fetched an idea.

I’m a new poster and not much of a Taylor fan, but I don’t understand the problem here. Is it really so terrible to create songs from a past relationship? One has to wonder why there so much vitriol for Taylor and not male celebrities whose misdeeds are far greater.

JFC, people! My 12yo said musicians write break-up songs, because it makes them relatable and helps them sell their music. You'd think adults could figure out how this works.

Do straight women act like this with their friends?

Straight Women - when I was in my 20s, absolutely. Some women are routinely touching or hanging off their friends without it being sexual.

Are you 90? Absolutely girls and women behave this way with their friends. Doesn't make them closeted lesbians. Get over yourself.

It doesn’t matter if they were girlfriends or BFFs - clearly there was a rupture in a close relationship, which is sad. Losing a BFF is almost worse than losing a romantic partner IMO.

I’m actually bummed that she’s said she is no longer writing about her lived experiences. Music written by someone experiencing pain, heartbreak, joy— can be so cathartic. The songs about fake people just aren’t as compelling.

People, fan reaction isn’t the only reason people stay closeted.

Guess what?

There are gay and bisexual people who don’t want to be gay or bisexual.

I’m one. I’ve been in the closet by choice all my life because I really don’t approve of living a gay lifestyle nor do I want to be associated with it. Call me self-hating if you will, but I don’t think we have to embrace everything about ourselves. I choose not to embrace my same sex attraction and I’ve acted on it only once — a kiss in my teens.

Like Taylor, I was raised rather conservatively. I still hold those values for myself, even if I no longer move in conservative circles. She just might not want to be known as gay/bi even if it wouldn’t affect her sales.

Storytelling in song writing — Also a difference often seen between country/folk/Americana & pop/rap/hip hop etc.

Let me put it this way - if Taylor was pictured making out with a man at a concert, the same man she was living with for years, the man she was seen with night-and-day nonstop, the man she was rumored to write songs about, while writing Karlie <3 Taylor in the sand on their Instagrams during solo road trips together, and the same man she was strutting down a runway with while holding hands in lingerie...would that even be a question?

Please.

Kind of disturbed by how Karlie Kloss, judging from this pic only, could be a body double for Jared Kushner.

Maybe thats why she's in The Family now.

They’re both trash. You don’t marry a Kushner unless you’re also scum.
