Unfortunately a Ukrainian victory is not "inevitable" by any means. And at what cost does this victory come?

Exactly.

The cost, whatever it may be, is worth it.

Even if we have to send US troops to fight there, we cannot allow the Russians to win.

NO. Absolutely not.

You want to see protests descend on DC? Send troops to Ukraine or Israel. American parents are no longer willing to see their kids die in stupid or useless wars.

Iraq wasn’t that long ago. GWB is still searching for the WMD’s.

Right. Lessons from the "war on terror "

We have to stop Putin. This is the only way.

Go for it, just stop trying to drag the rest of us with you.

who is “we,” exactly? I’m thinking it’s not the 650K Ukrainian males of fighting age who’ve left for the EU, Brighton Beach, or Broward County.

As Arestovich said yesterday, between three parties, Americans, Ukrainians and Russians, Putin is the only one who wants piece.

Well, it pales in comparison to the night on 3,000 pages of Israel / Gaza posting but ... we did it, fam. We finally got this Russia / Ukraine thread to 500 pages.

Nothing can stop us now!

Its official, Putin is officially sworn in: https://www.rt.com/russia/597129-putin-oath-russian-president/

The timing is amazing with Zelensky's term ending in two weeks. Its going to be quite the contrast seeing people talk about "defending democracy" after the 21st.

We're getting rid of tried and true systems that exist in greater quantity and hoping a small number of whiz bang systems can win wars. While shrinking our military and letting defense contractors consolidate.

We should really be turning down the rhetoric, rather than trying to pick fights on three fronts at once.

Tried and true? These are stockpile systems that have been sitting in depots for ages. We have enough next gen weapons systems to wipe any near peer threat off the face of the earth in the blink of an eye.

Enough is relative. It depends. We don’t have enough to wipe any near peer off the map unless you’re talking about nukes which will never be used anyway.

We very much have the ability to wipe out any country on Earth, including Russia, without having to resort to nuclear weapons. The US and NATO, however, do not do WWI-style trench warfare with its overwhelming reliance on artillery and human wave attacks. And therein lies the problem. Ukraine does not have the sophisticated weapons systems that the West does, particularly air power. There are no F-22s and F-35s and stealth bombers in the skies above Ukraine. Instead, that war is a brutal slog where thousands are lost over a field or a village. The US does have the munitions to supply the Ukrainians for this kind of war. But there was a six month gap in replenishing Ukrainian stocks because of pro-Russian Republicans. And that six month delay has been pretty devastating for Ukraine.

Are you referring to nuclear weapons or something else?

I think this guy is stuck on old war movies and propaganda. Even if an F-35 could penetrate Russian airspace, what is it going to do, drop a handful of JDAMs? The same JDAMs that are now about 6% effective in this EW environment?

Arms lobbyists continuing to lead the US down a rapid destruction path. We lost the war with Russia, a massive strategic mistake informed by arrogance not facts.

This conflict is getting pretty hilarious, now a Polish Judge has defected to Belarus in protest: https://www.politico.eu/article/polish-judge-asks-for-asylum-in-belarus-protest-against-unjust-policy-towards-russia/

"He argued that the authorities in Warsaw, under the influence of the United States and the United Kingdom, are “leading the country to war.”

"Whoever is fleeing Poland to Belarus to slander Poland and the NATO community of which we are a part is a scoundrel and traitor,” Stanisław Żaryn, an aide to President Andrzej Duda, told reporters in Warsaw."

Maybe Poland should build some sort of physical barricade to prevent its dissident citizens from fleeing.

The much anticipated northern offensive seems to have begun:

Its amazing how Russia managed to open another front after taking a million casualties and losing all its armor and artillery.
