Dc one card

Anonymous
DD lost her dc one card (on the first day of school ) could her identity be stolen etc, or is it fine?
Anonymous
You should have her get a new one.

IT can be linked to things like the library and rec centers, so if someone used it and did something wrong that could be problematic.

Unlikely, but still.

You know also that the DC one card will no longer be used for metro, right?

It will work for a little while - September something. Then only the Students Ride Free stickered Smartrip cards will work.

Our school isn't requesting new ones, they made it sound like you can't get them because of the switch. But call to have it deactivated.

You get. then elsewhere - the DCOne card is still your DPR/library card for example.

So it was the old DC ONE card with the picture? We have lost between my 4 kids about 10+ of them. No problems identity-wise.

We did get the new KRF cards which don't have a picture. Your child can just get that as a replacement.

It was such a nice idea to have all services on one card. Too bad they dropped that. We never had a problem with the metro function of the card.

We didn't either, but the WMATA bus and metrorail systems showed that only 20% of eligible families actually activated and used them, yet the video at stations and bus drivers' experience was that far more were students jumping turnstiles and waving them at bus drivers that swiping the cards.

Checking out library books. Accessing your local rec center.

Oddly ours has never worked for checking out library books and always worked just fine for WMATA. Our library just gets the kids names off the cards and checks them out manually so we just got them library cards so they can access the on-line services DCPL offers and I printed their numbers with a label printer and added to their DC One Cards.

I was at the Tenleytown Metro this morning and as usual all the Wilson students were basically turnstile jumping while WMATA staff and police looked the other way - no idea why it is so hard for this city to properly do things.
