Am I nuts to be thinking of two different private schools for our two kids.

One child seems like a better fir for a progressive approach, the other needs more traditional schooling.
The commute would be tough. Anyone else in this bind?

Yep. Right there with you. Maybe I even saw you on a tour this year! I feel like I have to tell every AD, "No, really. We are this crazy."

Good luck, and I hope it all turns out well for you and our kids!

Nope. My brother and I attended single sex schools in different suburbs growing up. Presuming you have other parents to carpool with, or schoolbuses available, it's very do-able.

I know a family with three children in three different schools. Another with three in two different schools. A family of two, a boy and a girl, in two different schools. A family of two, both girls, in two different schools.

I have kids in three schools. Sometimes it's the right thing to do, but if you want to be there for all of their events, it's a real commitment!

I have kids in two, and am considering switching. It is hard to feel a part of both school communities, and I truly believe that that would enrich the whole family.

22:18 again. I just thought of another family with three in three different schools! Back to School Nights and other events can conflict but it's doable.

There are 2 thoughts I have
1. I think it is a fabulous gift for you to give your children. For you to recognize the learning environments where they would be most successful - and making the sacrifices to make it work.

2. You would be nuts to spend the type of money for private school but to put a child in an environment where they are not going to thrive.

We do multiple schools and know of many others as well. Agree with pp, for the money spent - a good or at least decent fit is a must. And frankly it will happen eventually unless you put all through K-12 school.

Big thing to look at closely - is it even possible logistically if you have to swing the drop offs and pick ups - - or a carpool. Other conflicts are generally manageable. although - halloween is our next upcoming challenge!
