Simone or Simona

Anonymous
Trying to honor a Simon and absolutely in love with both of these names. We tried to use any familial connection to make a decision but DH is French (Simone) and I'm Romanian (Simona) so that didn't go well. Does the -a completes it or unnecessarily frill it? DS is Hugo.

Sounds like a fish

Clearly, Simone is more popular but I do know a little Simona who is just the cutest thing on earth and is very clearly a Simona, not a Simone. Other than that, I do think it sounds like one is saying Samoa, like the cookie.

Heh, I thought maybe you were inspired by the Olympic gymnastics champs with these names!
