This is the most interesting thing I’ve read about the virus, thank you for posting!

It's cute that we at least have a couple of cases where contact tracing, aka "detective work" can be performed, even though we've waited all the way to the broad community-acquired phase just barely get started on testing, at which point contact tracing is pointless.

(sorry about the grammar of that)

OMG. Of all of the things to focus on FIRST, Trump is dropping the interest rate? How about our medical infrastructure? Test kits? Teams for contact tracing? Anything?!?

WTF?

Agreed on most of your points, BUT! I also don not to lose all my money! We can't let the stock market tank, 401Ks are tied up in the stock market, we don't want people to suffer from the coronavirus AND lose retirement money, right?

Unfortunately for all of us, dropping the rates won't help. So not only is he not focusing on the right priority, he's also doing it wrong.

Riddle me this... Who had more cases first? Who has more now..
Singapore 108
South Korea 4812

Who has cold weather and where is hot now?

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

Singapores response to the virus has been hard hitting, implemented early and thoroughly. Far different from any other country. You cannot say all the reason for less spread in Singapore was due to temperature.

https://fortune.com/2020/02/28/singapore-coronavirus-contained-response/

The answer is maybe, and perhaps only with the unique combination of factors that Singapore brings: a top-notch health system, draconian tracing and containment measures, and a small population that’s largely accepting of government’s expansive orders. Few other countries battling an outbreak that’s now infected more than 83,000 globally and killed over 2,800, can replicate these circumstances.

Singapore was aggressive out of the gate and has continued to be. It was one of the first countries to impose restrictions on anyone with recent travel history to China and parts of South Korea. It has a strict hospital and home quarantine regimen for potentially infected patients and is extensively tracing anyone they may have been in contact with.

It’s charging a couple who gave false information on their travel history and taking away residency status from a person who breached his quarantine, among other punitive actions.

Singapore “will not hesitate to take strong action” against rule breakers, Law Minister K. Shanmugam said in a statement Thursday. “The deliberate breaking of the rules, in the current situation, calls for swift and decisive response.”

Singapore also closed down things like religious services etc.

+1

It helps to not have a bunch of religious nutters spreading the virus in dangerous ways.

My guess is he takes the Metro-North daily in from Westchester to Manhattan and works in a huge building so he's had thousands and thousands of contacts.

They've said his son goes into Manhattan for school, so there's that.

Dr. Tedros of WHO gave a briefing today. He compared CV to flu.

"This #coronavirus is not SARS, it’s not MERS & it’s not influenza. It is a unique virus with unique characteristics.

Both #COVID19 & influenza cause respiratory disease & spread the same way, via small droplets of fluid from the nose & mouth of someone who is sick"-

"However, there are some important differences.

First, #COVID19 does not transmit as efficiently as influenza.

With influenza, people who are infected but not yet sick are major drivers of transmission, which does not appear to be the case for COVID-19"-

"Evidence from China is that only 1% of reported #COVID19 cases do not have symptoms & most of those cases develop symptoms within 2 days.

Some countries are looking for cases of COVID-19 using surveillance systems for influenza & other respiratory diseases"-

"Countries such as China, Ghana, Singapore & elsewhere have found very few cases of #COVID19 among such samples – or no cases at all"-

WTF? I thought it was now know that asymptomatic people could spread it? The WHO sounds like a waste of money.

Wow - I am amazed they even tested this Manhattan worker - in my state, which follows CDC guidance, he would NOT get tested.

Many doctors have compared it to SARS. Including now-deceased Dr. Li.

I’m sure they tested him because he is in critical condition. So already in bad shape without a real other reason why.

Come on, this is a brand-new virus they're still learning about and they've had to rely on China for all their data until recently. This is good news.
Take your political agenda elsewhere. Thanks.

NY asked for and received permission to use their own testing. That may include their own guidelines.

Did you watch their press conference yesterday? It was a true embarrassment. If these are the worlds best and brightest then we are doomed.

I think what they're saying is while there have been SOME cases of this, it is not statistically significant.

So how did it spread in Washington State for an estimated 6 weeks flying under the radar?
