I see folks doing clubs etc spending thousands trying to get a LAX scholarship. Is it necessary. To be good of course an absolute necessity. But to get achooorship?
Only ask as I never played Lacrosse in HS. At college Freshman year I was approached to be on team with scholarship. I thought it was scam but met with coach. He said I sent players out to find practice team folks. Told him never played. He said you ran track HS and around six foot two inch. You stand in middle and try to block stars in practice. I show form to Mom as wanted parental sign off. She reads they are not liable any injuries, they can drop me anytime, 20 hours a week practice, not Allowed job during season. You are a tackling/crash test dummy no way. So I could get it but at what price. |

Yes. Not many are awarded, and it's not a lot of money.

| Many people are not in this for scholarships. My daughter just wants to use this to help her get into a top academic school. She already has the grades but these days you need more than that. She plans to play at a NESCAC school like Williams and we can afford to send her there. She also loves being part of a team and that makes for a great college (and high school) experience. |
Exact same with our daughter. |
| Well I believe there are only 12.5 or something like that for men's D1 and maybe a bit more for women's teams so yes it is. They also never award full scholarships because they split the money so they can give some to more kids - there are often 30+ kids on a college team. As stated already, many use it to get in to an academic school, often a D3 SLAC. Some schools will combine merit to give a bigger package but it's typically no where close to full scholarship. |
Its also very commonly used to help get in to one of the Ivies. Tons of kids around here go on to play lacrosse at Ivy League schools. |
