So, I can take a ruler (which is a standard 12 inches) and put it in my drawer. I do not have to use it. It makes about as much sense as what you are saying. |
What is their purpose? |
Again, I ask, who would volunteer their kids for such a program? Who wants their kids to be guinea pigs? |
You were already proven WRONG in your assertion that there were no teachers involved, that it was all done in isolation. |
|
The whiny CC critic has STILL failed to say specifically what is wrong with any element of the standard.
Monumental FAIL. |
Actually, no. Why don't you post the list of committee members that wrote the standards? |
Then please explain how "Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies.2 By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers." is a program. |
Could you please explain how it is relevant to the standards whether or not teachers were involved in the writing of the standards? Is the argument that if teachers are not involved in the writing of the standards, then the standards are bad? If that is what you believe, and you believe that teachers were not involved, then could you please point to one or two of those bad standards? |
The Common Core State Standards establish clear, consistent guidelines for what every student should know and be able to do in math and English language arts from kindergarten through 12th grade. I think that's valuable. |
Honey. You are claiming that these are standards that stand alone. You have said that they have nothing to do with curriculum or testing. Please explain how that works. |
I disagree with your "clear, consistent guidelines". I'm still waiting for the list of teachers involved--that is, classroom teachers. |
Who has said that the standards have nothing to do with the curriculum or testing? That would be absurd. If you want children to meet the standards, then you need a curriculum that is aligned to the standards. If you want to know whether children are meeting the standards, then you need a test that is aligned to the standards. |
So your argument: classroom teachers were not involved, therefore it is impossible for the guidelines to be clear and consistent - yes? Which guidelines do you think are not clear and consistent? Could you give some examples, please? |
Well, then, either the writers of the curriculum and tests are really dumb, or there is a serious problem with the standards. Either that, or the standards were rolled out without testing or development. |
Yes, but more important, without teacher input, I question the developmental appropriateness of the standards. It's easy to write standards if you don't deal with kids. |
